Do you apply to only new grad positions?

Nurses New Nurse

yes, the vast majority of jobs want some experience, job postings sometimes say experience preferred, instead of saying experience required. so does that stop you from applying to them? I mean, whats the worse that could happen? they just don't respond or say no thank you, but do you think it's possible to get hired into that position with no experience?

Yep. Happened to me. Sometimes they just need to fill a spot. And worse case scenario, they get no offers internally or externally except for a new nurse. :)

I would go ahead and apply anyway. That's what I did, and I got hired for a supposedly " no new grads" job. Yes, they all want someone with years of experience, but sometimes they have to "settle" for one of us

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

I did the same and I got hired. The position asked for 2 years of nursing experience and I had none...I made that clear in my application paperwork and during my interview. I got the job.

Just apply. It won't hurt.

My job said "1 year acute care RN experience required" and I was hired as a new grad with only 8 months of LPN experience. There are opportunities out there if employers are desperate and/or you are able to really sell yourself well via your resume, cover letter, interview, etc. Worst-case scenario is that you lose 15 minutes of your time. Also, I know that sometimes recruiters talk to one another, so it is smart to put your name out there as much as you can.

Specializes in Primary Care.

I applied to any job, regardless of experience. It certainly isn't going to hurt you. The job I have now wasn't even posted when I applied for another position, so after I interviewed they offered me my current position. Apply for position A, because for all you know positions B and C are available, but haven't been posted yet.

Specializes in LTC, Agency, HHC.

I apply to everything. I am technically not a "new" grad, but I am a new RN. So far no bites yet, but I still apply, apply, apply!!

Apply like mad and find out who the recruiters are on LinkedIn and make connections with them. I connected with the CEO of the hospital I ended up getting a job for, he endorsed my critical thinking skills. I don't know if that had Anything to do with me ending up with my job there.

Agree with all the former posts, I eventually accepted a new grad position, but I applied for jobs that were exp. nurses only and got an interview for one of them.

I, too, applied to everything I saw!
