I agree with the poster who said to take the test soon, just my opinion, if you feel you are ready. Don't wait.

I graduated on Dec.17 and got my ATT on 1/6/05...i scheduled NCLEX for 2/3/05, but the way things are going, i think i might end up taking it at the end of january. I start working on 1/18/05 in a Bone Marrow Transplant unit. Good luck dec. grads!

Hi everyone!

I recently graduated Dec 18th and finally been putting in some serious study time. I'm using Saunder's Comprehensive Review but I a question regarding lab values. Is it necessary to know all the lab value ranges in preparation for the NCLEX? I'm asking because I was told by my program that NCLEX will not ask about normal lab values due to so many sources having different values - which is true. I know the concepts behind an increased/decreased value in relation to various patient conditions but am wondering if it's worth my time to memorize all the different lab value ranges - especially if there's a chance that it may not be necessary.

So could those who recently took the NCLEX concur or disagree with this?

Good luck to all of those who graduated recently as well and I wish you well on the NCLEX. (I have not scheduled mine yet due to increasing anxiety!) :)

I just took it yesterday. I had 1 for sure where I needed to know a normal range in order to prioritize care. I quickly narrowed it down to 2 choices but I had to really think about those 2 because the lab values were CLOSE to normal. When I got home I looked it up and I had gotten it right. Plus there were a few others but I think if you concentrate on the top 10 common values you'll be ok. They won't ask obscure stuff.

Whew! Thanks for your input NurseWeasel. I can stop freaking out so much now. I pretty much know the "must-know" lab values (i.e. K+, Na+, ABG's, BUN, Creat, etc.). Congratulations on getting that question correct. I'm sure that I will probably head straight to all my nursing books after taking the NCLEX to search for answers/rationales. Lol* :chuckle

We had pinning 12-16-04 and I got my ATT on 12-22-04. I took the NCLEX today, 1-13-05.

I am not feeling very good about it... I did well in school (3.89 GPA), studied and took a review class and it was still so hard and I felt like I knew nothing.

I start in the nursery on 1-24-05, so I sure hope I surprise myself.

I have a question, what religion is buried with their fingers in the cross position. Any input appreciated. I really need to brush up on my religion, I hear that theres alot about religion on the test.

There are a few cultural questions, i had on Jewish burial traditions, not sure of your question, i would guess Catholic but have no idea.

That burial question seems really "out there" with regards to what the NCLEX would ask. They'd be more likely to ask something having to do with nursing care than something postmortem. All my questions were "big picture" type stuff, not specific details like that, anyway. Best luck to you.

I didn't have any "religion" questions on my nclex. However, on on of my practice tests there was a ? about which meal was NOT appropriate for someone of Jewish faith.
