Accepted my first nursing job!

My opinion you should of told during your interview. You will only be on the floor a little over 2 months before you deliver.

First of all, congrats on your first nursing job! While I do agree with the above poster, it is obviously too late and now I believe the only solution is to tell your nurse manager ASAP and I would tell them in person. Maybe you can just take a quick trip to the floor prior to actually starting or e-mail your nurse manager and ask to set up an appointment/time that you can meet to sit down and talk. You wouldn't want them to feel bombarded on your first day on the floor.

Be calm. Don't worry. It will not do you or baby any good. Your first RN job may come with a bit of stress because your out on your own finally. I agree with a sit down in an office or something. You want people to know ASAP because there indeed are special precautions you should take. Try not to move patients. Always ask for help. Always stay hydrated( so easy to forgot on the floor, and so so so important for blood flow to the baby). Try your best to not have a MRSA or C DIFF patient assigned to you.

Better you do get it out early. Also, don't over analyze your managers reaction. You don't want to be distracted on the unit. It will work out.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will call him next week and see if we can schedule a meeting :) Almost everyone I talked to prior to my interview told me not to tell.

Even the HR lady who offered me the job today told me not to tell even now. But I just feel like I am being deceitful.

Also he may already know. I just interviewed a week ago and my baby bump is really starting to show. Just don't want to start off my first job on the wrong foot!

Congrats on the new job! Excited you must be. I agree with others that as soon as you can tell your manager the better so they can start planning for your absence. You can't assume he suspects because I know I have thought some people were pregnant and I was dead wrong with those assumptions.

You may experience a little more added stress being pregnant and a new new, but try not to take the stress home.

I went ahead and emailed him today. I just couldn't shake the feeling I needed to tell him asap. I was really stressing about it. So now I am waiting on his reply. At least I feel better now that I am not hiding anything. Still kinda worried about what he is going to say.... Thanks for all the advice!

i was in the same situation as you and i chose not to go for the job because i know once i finished my orientation on the floor , it is about time to deliver the baby and i just do not bother, for the sake of the baby and family...and my husband was on my side too .so i wait till baby is born, breastfeeding was hard for me too since i have to feed and pump every 3 hours ,and it takes a while before i get new life together and I can find a job to start... I can not imagine how I am going to do or stress myself out if i chose to go for the floor...But good luck to you and your baby and hope everything works out for you finally!
