Georgia Preceptorship

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

I am a Paramedic in Georgia. I have completed all the Gen Ed requirements for a ADN program. Due to my current work situation I'm unable to attend a traditional nursing program. I'm considering the Excelsior College ADN program. I'm aware of the GA/Excelsior horror stories, and I am familiar with the additional clinical requirements. Where can I do the preceptorship? Are there any former GA Paramedics who have completed this process? I'm also considering working in SC for a year then applying for endorsement.

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTACH, LTC, Home Health.

The medical center of central Georgia (MCCG) in Macon offers preceptorship.

Do you know the contact information?

The main hospital number is 478-633-1000. Ask for the DON's secretory or the education department and they can direct you from there. Inquire about other locations as well because MCCG is one of two Macon hospitals that always have nursing students from nearby colleges, so they tend to be overrun with students. Rumor has it that nursing students from the local colleges take precedence over preceptees....hence the waiting list. I'm not sure, but I do believe Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah does preceptorship also. Their number is 912-350-8000....ask for the education department here. They also are on of the CPNE testing sites...this might be your location of choice when you're eligible, given the proximity to South Carolina. Good luck and be prepared to hear "call us back when you're eligible for boards".

Thank you for posting this information on this subject matter. It was very helpful when I had to figure out where to go for my preceptorship and it will be in Macon. I start Feb 16. Now I just need to find a safe hotel to stay in that's not too expensive.

Specializes in Medsurg, LTC.

What is this preceptoship about, is it with EC, is it a way to opt out of the cpne?

There is no way to opt out of the CPNE, ever. This preceptorship is required of some EC graduates for licensure in Georgia.

Specializes in Emergency.

Crapola, I wish we had this option in Washington state.
