Excelsior RN applying to Nurse Practitioner Programs

Hey all.

I'm wondering if any of you are or know any who were originally licensed as RNs through Excelsior's ADN program who later successfully or unsuccessfully applied to nurse practitioner programs. I'm curious if there is any reputation or perception issue that would prevent me from becoming an NP/APN.

I already have a B.S., but not a BSN. Some NP programs will accept ADN nurses with a non-nursing baccalaureate degree, so my intent would be to get an ADN (perhaps through Excelsior), then apply directly to NP MSN programs, bypassing the BSN.

If I have to get a BSN through a "better school," I can (I live right near UT-Arlington) through an RN-BSN program, but I'd rather skip the cost and time of that step if I can.

Thoughts anyone?

I didn't get my original ADN through Excelsior...but I did complete my RN-BSN through them online. It didn't take me long at all to complete the BSN! I'm now going to a great school to become an AG-ACNP!

If you already have a bachelors in something else- you may want to look into some accelerated BSN programs!

I'm considering both. Just kind of seeing where things fall with some funding.

I know fellow EC grads who are now NPs - one via Frontier, one via Graceland. I am doing Chamberlain's FNP program now.

I know there are others on this board who got ADNs through EC, got their BSNs from more traditional schools (or at least in one case EC) then were accepted to NP schools.

I have not personally heard of any ADN (from EC) who went straight to NP but not saying it couldn't happen.

EC's BSN (and some decent GRE scores) was good enough to get me into a BSN to PhD program at a well-regarded State school.
