Excelsior LPN to RN

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone is currently taking the Excelsior LPN to RN ... and how goes it??!!

I'm not sure of this program, but I thought I would bite the bullet & try to pass the 1st of the 7 exams required.

I am also wondering why it is that you do not have to enroll to take the 1st two exams - Health Safety & Transition? Are they easier than the 5 remaining exams, and is this their way of getting you to take the worm? Or, are they harder than the 5 remaining exams - which would "weed out" the serious from those who aren't?

Thank you!

I talked to my advisor at excelsior (I am not enrolled yet). I am currently enrolled in an RN program at a university. My advisor told me they will not accept any credits from my current college, including any CLEP exams I have taken there. Have you heard this as well or no? Thanks

Did you speak to an admissions advisor or a nursing program academic advisor? There is a difference.

You get out of it what you put in! Excelsior is great if you are self-motivated and really want to learn nursing. I passed taking one class per month finishing in a little less than a year including the NCLEX. No failures, no repeats and passed the NCLEX in 70 questions. That being said, it was challenging, scary and stressful but today I am working in a busy ER and really happy that I did the program.

The college network is not a school and is neither endorsed nor affiliated with EC. They do not offer classes or credits but only expensive study guides. They don't offer financial aid but high interest private loans

The NY Attorney General just filed suit against them for deceptive practices including blatantly lying about their affiliation with Excelsior. The FTC is also actively investigating The College Network. If you signed up in the last 3 days consider your contract cancellation rights. Using TCN will more than double your costs as you must apply to EC and pay all tuition, test fees and other costs to EC.

Hi Seattlegirl

how are you doing in the program. Did you pass and obtain your RN LICENSE YET? If so how did you like the program. TIA

I've also had a similar conversation with an advisor who told me the exact same thing when I inquired about Clep testing. It's kind of confusing with the website from College Board specifying the CLep tests that are excepted by Excelsior College.

Some CLEPs are accepted by Excelsior, but not all for the ADN degree. Sometimes things change between the time you call and the time you enroll, which is why they won't commit to which ones they accept before you enroll.

Amen! You said it right.

hi all,

like many of you, i am about to start the excelsior lpn to rn program. i am looking for the best way to study without having to read the books. i am more of a visual/interactive learner so practice exams and computer programs work better for me. honestly, the reading material puts me to sleep .....does anyone have any suggestions? i came across a website that offers practice exams for the excelsior material nursing-practice-exams.com? has anyone tried it? im afraid to try one of these sites and get the wrong information. there is a bunch of other resources available on amazon.com and ebay but i don't know anything about those either. any suggestions? im really pushing myself to do this excelsior program and am a little afraid. i have always been more of a sit in class type student but all the nursing programs available are sooooooo expensive. i am going to try the first 2 exams first and see how it goes before i register officially. i really appreciate any insight anyone may have.

thanks!:nurse:

You will get much better education using Excelsior College books, online conference, study guides, and practice exams as opposed to "My Study Group", "College Network", "Rue" or one of the other publishing companies. The publishing companies materials are substandard and don't contain even 30% of the indepth knowledge you would get from the Excelsior books and resources. And not only that, the publishing company books are way more expensive and Excelsior does not recommend or endorse those products. When in doubt, call Excelsior College and speak to them directly toll free at 1-888-647-2388. I did and am ever so glad I did. At one time I was an Excelsior College associate degree nursing student. I'm speaking from experience having used both resources, the latter being Excelsior's. I had started out using publishing company for my first nursing exam and barely made a C. Started using Excelsior resources and my grades shot up to an A and I also gained much more understanding. If you're gonna do the Excelsior RN program, get all you can out of your education because you're gonna need it. You will need it for NCLEX-RN and working as a nurse in the real world. I personally would not do an associate degree program again anywhere, I'd just go straight through a traditional BSN because of new hospital requirements. Also, some states will not license Excelsior grads without additional requirements. California will no longer license us at all. And of course BSN grads get hired before we do, which sucks because we both pass the same NCLEX. And there are piss poor BSN nurses as well as ASN, so its highly unlikely that taking more management, liberal arts, and business courses will make someone a better bedside nurse. Its the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. At the end of the day, its your decision to make, so always do you boo. Good luck to you whichever route you choose.

I used mystudygroup101 for all my exams and passed with A and Bs. They are not substandard, they are very thorough and they are not expensive at $10 each and have hundreds of practice questions. That is much cheaper than the books any day. I can't vouch for TCN or RUE because I refused to sign a contract and pay out $10000 needlessly, but I would highly recommend studygroup101 instead of the expense of all the books, some of which you only need to read 2 or 3 chapters of after spending $75 for the book. I spent just over $100 on all my study guides. You can get books cheap on site like Ebay and Amazon or Half or you can rent them for about half the price it costs to buy them. Youtube has a lot of video lectures too on nursing but you have to search sometimes for specific subjects.:cat:
