EC RN-BSN? Yes or no?

I just got my RN and now I'm looking at RN-BSN options. I really liked the RN program at EC, but I've noticed that many of EC students went elsewhere for BSN. What is the main reason for doing that?

I'd really appreciate if you share your thoughts and reasons why did you choose to get your BSN elsewhere, and which school you decided to go.

You might want to talk with Suesquatch concerning this. If you can find her posts on the subject, she was with EC but quit the program. She found their requirement for videotaped assessments to be too difficult to deal with as I recall.

I was very annoyed that EC wouldn't do an official evaluation of my whopping 206 credits until I was enrolled. Also, they wanted me to repeat a bunch of lower-level general education stuff that I had already taken. They looked at some of the syllabi I faxed and said they looked promising, but they couldn't say "officially" if the classes would transfer until I paid the enrollment fee. Ummmmmmmm ... no.

And yes, there is a videotaped assessment assignment complete with critical elements and mnemonics. OMG, flashback! LOL. My friend Colleen is doing EC's BSN, and she is a CPNE survivor. She was not happy with that portion!

My clin spec is doing her BSN through EC, though, and is enjoying it. It's a good fit for some people.

i am a bsn student with excelsior. i am also an asn graduate of excelsior. i have not had any problems with excelsior's bsn program or instructors. i have only 2 more classes left and they have been more than helpful. every school will have some students that were not happy with their educational experience. good luck with your bsn hunting!

I loved my experience with EC ADN program and I'm really considering staying with EC. I just wanted to make sure that there isn't any major issues with the program :)

they took all my asn credits, and gave me 5 extra credits to apply towards nursing just for being an alumni. other schools would take some or most, but i didn't want to start over on my general education credits. good luck!

They should be able to do a quick unofficial eval for you -- contact a nursing advisor and ask. I think I just sent a message to the BSN advisors through MyEC, or something.

Money is a factor. I can do the RN-BSN locally for about $3,000 vs $11,000 with EC.

Yes, money is a big factor. But if I go to a brick-and-mortar school, I won't be able to work and I will loose money at the end (if I count all the paychecks that I won't receive because I will be at school instead of being at work :) )

If I will work and go to school at the same time, I won't have time for my family. Plus, I liked being free from the classroom and get stuff done at my own pace.

Money is a factor here too!! Why am I even thinking about this already? ha! No, I'm going to a state university RN-BSN online. I can go accelerated full time - 1 year or I can go part-time for 2. I haven't had the courage to tell my husband yet.. I applied last fall. oops!
