CPNE site Queens or Utica?

Ive heard massive amounts of great reviews for the Utica site. I just now read about a site in Queens, NY. Ive heard absolutely nothing about the Queens site. I live on Long Island, queens is actually on Long Island and about 40 minutes away from where I live. I would hate to spend airfare or gas or train fare to Utica plus $ for a hotel and fail, if I even save up enough for the cpne plus hotel/travel. My question is do you think I should shoot for Utica or settle with Queens? Also, have you heard anything about the queens site??

Save money by testing at the Queens site. I had a similar predicament when I took the CPNE. I had heard that the sites in and around Atlanta, Georgia, were difficult, but my dilemma was that I live just 1.5 hours north of Atlanta. After paying the hefty CPNE fee, I realized that I had to save money by driving to Atlanta. I couldn't afford to pay upwards of $400 for airfare to New York or Wisconsin, although I'd heard those sites were easier. Good luck to you and practice writing care plans!

thanks fawnmarie, I think I will! I searched on here about the queens site and im shocked at the good reviews and high recommendations. I think one person said everyone from her group passed and many people said it was a good experience. so glad I found out about thiss.

I am nowhere close to being eligible for the CPNE. I live in Florida and more than likely will not be able to afford traveling and lodging costs in order to test in New York. Is the talk true concerning the Georgia test sites? Are they really their tests sites difficult to pass? I read up on the requirements for LPNs in Georgia to sit for the RN exam after completing the ASN program with Excelsior, and it is a bit much. I can only assume that if they make the LPNs work that hard just so they can sit for the board exam, that they probably will make it very difficult for LPNs passing through. I like a challenge:yeah:

I live in the Bronx so I tested at Queens New York hospital last August and pass. The CA **** is very nice and mother like. Give lots of encouragement. The CE's are also nice they all really want us to pass but you have to prove to the that you know your stuff. I would recommend Queens site anytime.

I tested and passed in Utica in 2012 and the CE told me that a group of them rotate sites in NY so I would think any site in NY would be good. Good Luck!!

Save yourself money and time. Travelling could add to your stress. If I were you I'd take Flushing site. I took it there for my first CPNE, although I failed, the CE's and CA were nice. I took my second CPNE in Albany which was nice, too. I passed my second CPNE but I would say, it is not really about the place. There were 5 of us who tested in Flushing, but only one passed. The one who passed, even before she passed, said she'll retake there in case she fails because the CEs were nice. I agree but I just wanted anonimity when I retook the exam.

BeachyCathyRN, Yes I've heard that! I don't know if it sounds silly but I was thinking bc queens is downstate maybe there's a little less rotation going on down there as opposed to albany utica and syracuse being all upstate and easier to rotate. What do you think?

Phengro, thanks so much. Do you mind sharing why you and the others didn't pass? If you can recall..I have decided to go to Queens but I'm still interested in hearing more experiences. Thanks

Sure. I do not know why the others didn't pass. We did not really talk during the CPNE nor afterwards :) My first PCS, I did a simple back rub to my patient and since she was already seated comfortably, I did the respiratory management, too. Then, I forgot to auscultate again after the deep breathing exercises because my mind was in getting her a book in the opposite far side of the hallway (still as part of my comfort management). By then, I only had 10 minutes left and I had not documented a single thing yet. The second was because my BP did not concur with the CE. So, double check your BP. Third, I declared my vital signs forgetting to fill in the pain level :)

Thanks phengro, What did you use to prep for the cpne? I plan to do an online workshop I think sheri taylor is what ive seen recommended. I also plan on buying robs cpne videos. Does the cpne manual given by excelsior go over comfort management? Or is that something I will learn when I get to the nursing exams? I'm concerned about many peoples failures like what if I don't do something bc a particular prep service/material didn't cover. Where did you learn about comfort management? Did you expect that at the cpne? Thanks

I just got my test date for next month at NY Hospital Queens and I am excited/anxious! I see the reviews on this feed look pretty good though. I live in Dallas and I didn't want to wait until next year to test (seeing as I finished in June) so I chose NPAC. Thank god. Send good energy my way too please! :nailbiting:
