Beginning of my journey

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

I finally decided to take the plunge the last week of August to pursue my nursing degree. Having been to multiple colleges in the past few years it took a while for Excelsior to receive all my transcripts. The wait seemed like forever but I always tell myself anything worth having is worth waiting for.

Three and a half weeks later i am notified of the classes i need to complete the program. All the nurses exams (to be expected) along with Information literacy, Lifespan psy, A&P 1 + 2 and Microbiology.

My original plan was to spend a month on the AP 1+2 exam then take the INL and Lifespan Psy as courses and beginning my nursing theory by the end of the year. This changed after finding out I didn't need lifespan psy to start nursing exams. Figure I'll do it as a wait for a CPNE date.

The practice exams are and were an amazing investment, instead of wasting the entire month studying for the AP exam i was able to gauge how prepared I was and took the exam about two weeks after studying. Got my results and was pleased, one exam down one more to go for prereq.

The following two weeks i spent studying Microbiology. After doing both practice exams with studying between of course I set a test date to keep myself on track. Today was that day and am glad to have it over with.

My goal by the end of this week is to finish INL and move on to my first nursing exam.

Good to hear. I am trying to gauge how long I need to prepare for the A&P 1 class. I did purchase the practice exams but have not done one yet. Can you tell me what else you did to prepare for the exam?

On youtube i watched videos under 'AnatomyGMC' and 'PofessorFink'. Usually at around 1.5 playback speed.

Little update, I will be taking my third nursing exam (health difference) tomorrow. Then on to foundation in nursing practice. Hoping to at the very least finish phase one by the end of the year.

Taking foundations tomorrow. Been using studyguide , nclex review and medsurg text for this one. Scored 54 and 68 on the practice exams. Hoping for the best tomorrow. With the exam changes to life span 1 & 2 taking place this January am hoping to knock those out also before then.

I haven't gotten any heavy studying for the A&P 1 exam yet. I have had to take a class my BON requires for LPNs who are charge nurses to learn how to supervise. I am almost done with the homework for that class and then can focus on the A&P I am scheduled to take the exam on Dec. 8.

I am glad to hear that you are progressing through the prereqs. I should be starting the nursing classes after the first of the year.

Thanks.

Good luck with a&p I took the combined exam. If it's anything like that it's pretty straight foward. The practice exam is a very good indicator and was actually harder than the real exam.

You guys excite me to start!! I've had my doubts but after attending my community college orientation for the LpN to RN program.... I feel EC will be a better fit!!

Last update before Christmas break. Was able to complete life span 1 & 2. Have life span 3 and reproductive health to go before hopefully making the February FCCA.

Just finished both FCCA finals. Now onto the beast. It's been a difficult journey so far and the hardest challenge is ahead of me. I can't wait to have it all behind me.

Wow you did that very fast. Just home you do well for CPNE. Memorize your areas of care.

Congrats Seity! I passed my last fcca yesterday. What a relief. I started the nursing exams July 2015. I was determined to get them done. Passed 1st try on all exams. Now I can focus my study on cpne for the next 6-? months
