RN Health Coaching

Nurses Entrepreneurs

I was wondering about health coaching. Do you have to have training in it? There are training websites, but of course they are expensive. :o

Also how would you start? Would you start by marketing online and in person?

If someone is in this field, and does not feel comfortable answering all these questions on the board, you can pm me.

Thanks,

Hi I'm interested in health coaching as well. I've been a medsurg bedside nurse for about a year in a half, and I would like to move toward the preventative spectrum with educating clients, promoting healthy habits, and etc. I don't know where to start in regards to getting a certification or going back for my masters. If you hAve any info, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Specializes in Med-surg.

Im looking at health coaching certification. the 2 programs I've seen dr Sears Wellness institute and the national society of health coaches. They have a significant difference in cost. Any input?

I completely agree! I am spending hours trying to find out how an RN becomes a health coach/life/wellness etc. It seems there is not a 'governing body' and as RNs, we should be grandfathered into this role. I see people on Facebook offer wellness coaching with no credentials except life experience and the "I came through some rough times" background. I am in psych and want to specialize my coaching, just not into any more schooling.

Has anyone recently passed their certification exam with WellCoaches? Just had some questions

I am very interested in getting some information. Thank you!

I am interested in coaching and wondered about paying Intergrative Nutrition. The course is online and close to $5000.00 with a $1000.00 discount for paying in full. I have done some research and I am a little uneasy about the program. My BIG Question is: where and how do you get clients? I mean who is really willing to pay for such coaching? I get it free through my insurance premiums I pay. Just asking. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

My question is what is the difference between a health wellness coach and diabetes educator with a MSN and own business?

Hi! Any nurse who is interested in being able to make a living helping others with their health and wellness needs to understand what health coaching vs other programs offers. The only nationally accredited program that I know of that gives real credentials to nurses is the NIWH (Whole Health Training and Education - Accredited | Holistic Health Programs). They are credentialed by the Institute of Credentialing Excellence and give ANCC nurse CE contact hours. The program allows you to earn an NPI number, a billing manual, and provides the training so you can work with doctors or on your own. It's 400 hours, it's 41 years old, it has a long list of credentials and recognitions, and they have a program exclusively for nurses. I know what you mean about being uncertain about how to go forward with all the experience you already have as a nurse for expanding your options and income. I think it would be worth your checking this program out, certainly can't help to talk with someone there!

Hi, Thank you for the info. Unfortunately, as a LVN I will not be able to earn an NPI number.

I know this is an old post, but I've been looking into coaching for some time now. I'm considering the health coach institute. From what I have been reading, many coaches get the education and nutritional information needed through programs but then do not have the knowledge or tools on how to implement that information and really "coach" a client. Coaching is about transformation for the client, not telling them what to do, but digging deeper and coaching them into what is healthy for them as an individual and that will vary from person to person. The program I found really focuses on transformational coaching skills, not just nutrition. They also provide a lot of information on business skills and starting your coaching practice. Has anyone taken the HCI program? I'm pretty sure it's the program I will be signing up for.

Hi, If you are a licensed practicing nurse or licensed vocational nurse, as long as you have a current non-restricted nursing license, after taking the NIWH program (Whole Health Training and Education - Accredited | Holistic Health Programs), you will receive an NPI number. I'd give them a call and talk to someone there about your particulars and your concerns. An NPI number is a good addition to one's credentials for increasing both legitimacy as well as income.
