  1. Thank you so much RN/WI for your comments and suggestions and I will take your suggestions to heart and contact Total Med stafing along with the others that NedRN suggested as well.
  2. LOL yeah Balm is some healing ointment! I guess he can be balm and a bomb???? I am on the over the hill gang side so I guess I should stay in my lane.... LOL
  3. NedRN, just from your knowledge and experience, in relationship with psychiatric nursing or travel nursing in general, as a rule, what would be considered the most minimum amount per hour shoud nurses accept? I know I would not be willing to accept anything less than $20.00 an hour no matter what the specialty. LOL
  4. NedRN, thanks for that tidbit of wisdom regarding going for a good fitting traveler assignment on the first assignment! How true that should be for the newbie to focus on getting oriented to the challenges of travel nursing first!
  5. NedRN, question: okay 6 weeks out into your current contract if you are open to renewing your contract with your current hospital, would you not also ask at this manager at this time if they were open to renewing while at the same time going forward to contact recruiters to let them know your availability for another assignment if one is open?
  6. From your response NedRN, I am gathering that it may be a little tricky to make a substantially greater income in travel nursing if you own or rent. Here she would only make $18.00 no non-taxable stipend income? Or am I mistaken that she will make only the $18.00? Confused So, IF a nurse takes the housing provided by the agency, they don't get the stipend of course; therefore, are they just trying to get basically the same amount of hourly wage or even less than what they would make at the hospital unless they received $35-37.00 hr? Just trying to get educated before I get taken financially...LOL again, LOL real hard hurting inside. Lela
  7. LOL well again NedRN you are the BALM!!! Thanks for the input and your take on it from your perspective. I too, thought that biases and prejudices which are more prevalent as from my experience of living in the southern part of the USA ; however, again, I have other experience in LTC and Utilization Management, rehab, dialysis etc that I can draw on. Again, the body is wearing down from long 12 hours of standing and running on your feet all night long; here is where psychiatric nursing does not wear on the body as much as medical surgical does. Again, thanks you are the BALM!!!! LOL again and again! Lela better known as Odobox (my grandpet's name). :)
  8. Thank you so very much for your insight and wise counsel. I sincerely appreciate it. I have often wondered about how difficult it would be to keep a stable continuous source of income with travel nursing. For me, since I am singe and have no close family livng near me as my most immediate family lives in Indiana and Wisconsin, I am open pretty much to traveling anywhere and I am not picky (especially with my speciaty of psychiatric nursing). So I will consider all of your counsel. Once again, thank you so very much! Lela
  9. Well Buyer beware, LOL really LOL really hard. Yeah, I always tell people that I have three strikes against me: old, fat, and black. Hopefully, since I am in psychiatric nursing, most nurses don't want that field because you can get beat up in it... LOL so maybe they might be really desparate... at least I want to give it (travel nursing) . I have decided to take a PRN position and then be open if an opportunity comes along to try one contract hopefully with 2- 6 miles away from home; if I don't like it, I can always go back to PRN and a part-time position which would give me flexibility and autonomy with the ability to schedule my work days. For sure I will come back to this site to let you and the others know if travel nursing was my cup of tea. I just want to give it a try... I have nothing to lose now since I am no longer full-time and even if I wanted to go back to full time there is a possibility I could do that too. Thanks so much for your insight, suggestions, and comments. Lela
  10. I am not so concerned about the choice of assignment location as I am having an assignment to choose. My only thing is I don't want to be in a harsh cold state in the middle of winter, but if i had no choice i would do so. Thank you so much for your input, i sincerely appreciate it. it helps me in gathering information and knowledge from individuals who have been where i am trying to go.
  11. My question is once you get a contract great! But after that contract has expired are there any nurses who actually travel find it difficult to get the next travel contract? Considering travel nursing but seeking conistent income as well so this is why i am asking this question. Thanks for any response from nurses who have experienced issues or problems with lapse of income between assignments or is this not a problem? My resason for asking is that if i traveled I would be in psychiatric nursing which is from what I have been told limited opportunities not as open as med surge or ICU or ED.
  12. Hello, I am seeking any person's advice who has traveled and can give me some sound advice about travel nursing. I am 58 years old and recently semi-retired from a full-time job in psychiatric nursing specialty. I still owe payments on my house and I want to forge forward to pay off my home as quickly as I can by making the most I can without having to be committed to working a regular full-time job yet working full-time hours and also since I still need to work full-time to reach this goal, I considered travel nursing. Since I am a little apprehensive about just going all out to travel, I thought about local travel nursing within the state I live in Tennessee where I would still be within distance to travel back to my home if need be. Has anyone done this type of travel nursing? Was it beneficial financially? Just trying to determine if I would be better off just working full-time and working either extra hours or PRN somewhere else to reach my goal quicker than travel nursing. I have heard of people who have paid cash for their homes doing travel nursing. I am open to any suggestions, comments, advice, etc from anyone who has actually traveled and knows the benefits of traveling financially regarding whether I could possibly come out on top traveling, as I am open to traveling anywhere after doing a trial run in my own state close to home (being that I find it something I would consider doing again). Thanking everyone in advance for your ideas, suggestions, comments, advice. As I am divorced, unattached with no immediate family in the state I live in so no worries about missing someone or close friends etc to keep me from the idea of traveling anywhere in the states. Also, does anyone know of any travel agencies or recruiters which you have had good experiences with during your first travel assignement? Stay Blessed! Lela
  13. Where did you complete a MSN for $9,000.00?
  14. NoI am just weighing my options to determine if you could actually make a real living as a Health Coach full-time or even just part time. I mean how do you get or market your services where clients are willing to pay for them? I have health coach from Cigna free through my health insurance so I wonder, who would actually pay for these services.
  15. FrutrulisticLadee, LPN would you private message me as well? I was considering this health coaching and just want to know how do you get your clients where do they come from? Who is going to pay for such services? I get free coaching through my health insurance company Cigna, of course I pay premiums for insurance. Thank you I appreciate information about the program you are in.
