Business Address Necessary?

Nurses Entrepreneurs

Hello to all,

I am currently a RN Case Manager. I am in the process of getting my non-medical home care business started. Ideally, I would like to run the business out of home and rent a place for my interviews on a prn basis. This will be the most cost efficient for me right now. Will potential clients view this as acceptable? Will this be frowned upon? Thanks.

Personally, I would NOT use my home address for mailing. I would suggest a PO Box or other form of mail box that keeps your personal and business mail (and life) separated.

This will somewhat depend on the laws in your state. In some states, there are certain medical businesses that cannot be run from a residential location. I would think that non-medical home care would be fine, but you may want to check into that first. And as the previous poster stated, it would be better to have a PO Box, even if you are running the business out of your home.

Is there a reason why your home would be unsuited for interviews? That is the more cost effective way to start a small business until it is well underway. Yes, you can rent offices by the day or even half day, but that seems less professional to me than a well presented home environment. I once consulted a lawyer in a temp office and was not impressed.

What sort of interviews would they be, hiring?

I also think it is fine to use your home address as a business address. Same reason, a physical address that is not Mailboxes USA seems more professional, even if it is a residence. A major reason to use a mailbox is if your address would otherwise change frequently, for the same reason you might use an online phone number to easily survive physical changes. I've been using my home to run my agency for the last 10 years (mostly for invoicing purposes) and did change my address once in that period (but still have access to the other address).

By the way, my home is also in the Dayton area!

YES! You need a separate business address even if its a P.O Box! Your home should be private, you don't need people popping up where you live or doing any other strange things. In business, you always try to separate your personal from your business. You need a business phone, email address and mailing address.
