Coming from a long line of lawyers in my family...

Shysters fits just fine!!!!!

Hey, I wonder if my being in healthcare makes me the "black sheep" or white one!!??!!

:rotfl:

it really just makes me the poor relation!!

If I were you, I'd make sure to show up bright and early at the court clerk's desk to explain why you missed your appearance. I once forgot about a jury summons, and a couple days later I received a VERY strongly worded missive from the court advising me I was going to be charged with contempt of court if I didn't get my butt down there PDQ and explain myself. You don't want to mess with the legal system, believe me.....they'll mess with you right back, and you'll lose!! :uhoh21:
 I can just hear the explanation now -- "It was nice out.... I HAD to go golfing....thought I could touch base with all the attorneys there.... OOPS !"

Tom-- let us know if you want us to be your "prison pen-pals"

Seriously, good idea to contact the nice folks in the clerks office.... BEFORE they contact you.

Try to stay out of trouble -- enjoy your posts -- sure would hate to have them "idefinately suspended".... HEY! Tell them that we are your commuity service -- you provide "counsel and guidence" for stressed out health care providers -- sound noble and maybe it'll work!! :p

I dislike broad generalizations...not all attorneys are terrible and for those who've posted on the BB about various issues that involved the BON and the like, most others immediately posted to obtain the services of an RN-JD. Attorneys have an important role as an advocate just as nurses do. Forgetting to attend court isn't a laughing matter- my husband prosecutes criminal child sexual assault cases and routinely supoenas medical personnel to testify. Not attending may mean the difference between a guilty vs. not guilty jury verdict so it should be a seriously taken responsibility.

Gldngrl, I dont think you are going to find very many "attorney lovers" in the nursing profession. Its just my opinion, of course, but I think attornies are the cause of the major problems in the healthcare system today.. before I am attacked from all sides, this is my opionion and I have a right to it. :coollook: :coollook:

Lighten up my friend,

This BB is NOT the courtroom...it is vent time!

Everyone is sharply aware of the ugly side of the human element...especially ER nurses...

We understand the ramifications of what we do and say...

But this forum allows us to vent a little...share a little "dark" humor...

And enable us to deal with the dregs we sometimes have to deal with.

I am totally with you on that veetach! I am disgusted with lawyers making millions against the medical profession and I would venture to say also that they are probably the primary reason that healthcare is in the state it is in right now, besides the fact that it is abused by so many in the ER. That is another topic though. I know we are in a profession in which a simple mistake can cost a life but man, chill on the lawsuits. I don't think there is anyone in any profession that can say they have never made a mistake. We just get the fingers pointed at us. I can see the reasoning on some lawsuits but most are absolutely ridiculous. It does show you the type of people and the type of society we live in today. It is sad!

All of you are entitled to your opinions...however, most attorneys aren't making the millions that are stated and the problems that some attribute to attorneys on behalf of the healthcare system might be rest with the insurance companies, but that's another subject. The problem I have is the somewhat cavalier attitude displayed about forgetting to attend court on a subpoena as if it it irrelevant. Nursing is not the only profession that deals with human lives and one's duty to the court should be upheld. I'll try to remember the animosity displayed toward attorneys the next time someone requests legal advice on the board or discloses their problems.....
