Nurse!!! Nuuuurrrrsssse!!!!

Pt. calling out "Nurse! Nuuurrrsse!" (not an emergency, just wanted the nurse to ask her a question).

Me, to another nurse nearby: "God, that is like nails on a blackboard to me. Why don't they ever call out for the doctor?"

I continue doing nursey charting stuff at the nurses' station, letting the moment pass.

A few minutes later I hear "Doctor, doctor!!!!!" coming from a nearby room. I start going toward the room to see what the problem is, only to see the doctor is in there, and they're all laughing.

I love the docs I work with. Thank you, doc, for an important reminder that patients can hear me talking, but done in a humorous and gentle way.

My ED has no call bells. Seriously. Sometimes it's a bad thing!

But don't your pts have sidearms?

Never! Only the staff had weapons at work. But alas, I am home from Afghanistan and forced to work unarmed. :)

Welcome home. Thank you for your service.

I had a shift yesterday where every single pt I had did nothing but yell nurse constantly. It's more exhausting than working up a critical.

Oh the one word every ED nurse dreads!!! That is most definitely my biggest pet peeve!!!!!!

And I am def guilty of the poor "inside voice" (you can hear me whisper from at least 30 ft away, inside a pt room, with the door shut)
