In your ED what kind of disposable, non-sterile gloves do you use? We used to use Kimberley Clark's gray nitrile gloves. Which are amazing. Now we've switched to S2S 506 series gloves which rip most of the time. They are terrible gloves. They tried a couple months ago with another kind of S2S gloves and told management basically we hate them. You would be in a huge mess with a patient and they would rip. It is bad for our safety and patients! Just puzzled as to why they would try another kind of the same brand. Our current Kimberly Clark gloves are amazing! What's your thoughts??

COST! It is all about cost. The nitrile gloves are expensive. I have been known to buy my own and carry them in my pockets

Since I'm at home, I'm not able to tell you what brand we use. But, I will say that we used to have some nice gloves up until about 6 months ago. We changed vendors (as others have said, due to cost), and I have noticed that probably about 10% of the gloves have small holes in them as soon as I put them on, and about 20% of them will break as soon as I put them on, even when trying a larger size.

We have all mentioned this to management over and over, emphasizing both the infection control issue as well as the cost issue -- sure, they're cheaper, but if we're using 20% more gloves due to breakage, is it really worth it?

As usual with management, words fall on deaf ears.

We use blue nitrile Sensi-care 200 gloves by medline. Awesome gloves. Only the ED uses these gloves, everywhere else they use crappy clear gloves that stick if you have the slightest dampness to your hands.

Nitrile gloves are about $50.00 a case, vinyl are about $30.00

Right now I'm using Curad stretch vinyl. Basically whatever the Army can get to our remote corner of Afghanistan and comes in a size small, that's what I'm using! Love the Kimberly-Clark nitrile, though.
