Ok all you ER nurses out there...I'll be starting my first job in the ED soon (couple years of med/tele experience). I'd love to hear your pearls of wisdom! Tips and tricks, do's and dont's, things you wish you knew when you started.

I'm all about learning from other's experiences!

MEEEE toooo!! I am a new grad here in the US. I accepted a PRN position just to get my feet at the door of the hospital.. LOL.. But, I DO NOT have any ER experience so I came here hoping to get some advice too!... I know I can do this, I just need a good learning environment that will bring out the best in me...:)

You will be overwhelmed at first. Don't get discouraged based on your first couple of shifts!!

Experienced ER nurses know a lot…listen to them.

Remember that solid teamwork takes place in the ER than in most other nursing specialties. Help is there, don't be afraid to ask for it (and, when you have a free moment, volunteer to give it).

so far the best advice I found most helpful was: you're only one set of hands and feet. do one thing at a time.

i am still learning to not get stressed over situations where i am overwhelmed; ems back to back with sick pts is usually the worst case. it will suck for first few months i am sure
