I am a current nursing student interested in ER nursing. What is the maximum dose of Cardizem IV push followed by infusion for a patient in the ER with angina and a-fib? Thanks, I appreciate it!

Can't remember the initial dose or infusion rate but one thing I've learned with Dilt is before titrating a drip completely off, check with the doctor to see if they want the patient switched over to PO. If they do, make sure to give the PO dose first, wait an hour or so, then turn the gtt off. :)

I'm not sure what the book says but in our everyday practice we give anywhere from 5-20mg for the initial dose for rapid AF then repeat as needed or move on to cardioversion or a gtt depending on what's going on with the patient.

For future questions on this site you will get better answers if you look something up first and ask a question about what you found--people appreciate some effort because a lot of nursing is knowing where to find your answers.
