BSN to DNP?

Specialties Doctoral

Published

Hello,

I have been working as an RN for 1.5 years and want to work on my DNP. I have my BSN and another bachelors in health policy. I want to become a nurse practitioner. I know it is better to get my DNP. I noticed that some DNP's are not NP's.

So my question is, how do I know which ones are to receive my doctorate as a nurse practitioner? I finished my BSN in an accelerated course so I want to try and finish my DNP as soon as possible too but still having quality education.

What universities would you recommend? I would prefer online until my clinicals.

Thank you

Well the first question you have to answer is: what kind of nurse practitioner do you want to be? There are many different kinds. I'm a baby NP :)

MQA is Florida, right? In FL I believe you can call TOD in a hospice setting.

There are many programs out there now with online formatting. I go to George Washington University online and like the quality of their instructors so far. Just keep an eye out for accreditation. We had a university near here go south leaving very many nurses in the lerch still owing money back for education they can't ever use.

Babies are cute!! But I would prefer to be in adult trauma.

I guess I just want to find an online program that allows a BSN to ACNP (doctorate preferred). Is there such a thing?

Is ACNP the same as AGACNP??

I believe AGACNP is the new term for ACNP, but they are the same thing. Both work with adults in acute care/specialty settings.

Idaho State University has a BSN to DNP program. My nursing instructor did this program and said it is amazing and the best! It's all online with flexible clinical work. And you can choose options for which DNP route. Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) | Idaho State University

University of South Alabama has an online BSN to DNP program for AGACNP. You can do full time (11 semesters) or part time (16 semesters). If you're doing AGACNP, they do require 2 years of experience in ER or ICU before beginning the clinical portion of the program. You are awarded the MSN once clinicals are completed and then continue on to earn the DNP.
