Davita. - bad idea to work for them now?

Before becoming a nurse, I worked as a dialysis pct, but not for Davita. I have been looking at some job postings, but I am concerned about working for a company that is on the brink of the big fraud accusation. Do you think it is a bad idea? I miss dialysis, but did not care for the other big company.

Big companies face big lawsuits all the time. Davita has enough $$ to fight this however long it takes and will probably survive no matter the outcome. But who knows. The dialysis patients have to be treated somewhere. If for some crazy reason the lawsuit is detrimental to Davita someone will buy them out and the clinics will still operate.

BTW Warren Buffett's company Berkshire Hathaway now owns about 13% of Davita stock. Not sure they would invest that much in a company they thought would be in any big trouble. But I'm not a business/finance expert.

That's the way I see it too.

White collar crime, and all...

DaVita isn't any different than any other mega-corp. pushing the limits of legality. It's not about the law, it's about manipulating the law's gray areas to extract the biggest possible payout.

No, they're not going down. How do you think The Big Two were able to corner 80% of the dialysis market in the first place? Friends in high (government) places, for one.

This folks, is Corporate America exemplified. Again, DaVita is not the lone "bad guy." It's just crony capitalism running amok as it always has.

Funny, I went into healthcare in part twenty years ago, because of the opportunity to avoid the corporate scene, and work for independent, community-based healthcare entities. That was attractive to me. Times have changed as buyouts and mergers rule the day.

I am no longer in dialysis.

Whoops and don't forget...DaVita: not just dialysis anymore. HealthCare Partners-Davita merger creates ACO - FierceHealthcare

Interestingly, in DaVita's online "store" (where patients can buy DaVita schwag) they have their own DaVita branded Monopoly game. The irony is not lost. These guys are a hoot. :)

Specializes in NICU, PEDS, M/S, DOU, ICU, REHAB.

I work for Healthcare Partners, (now Davita HCP) and this was news to me.

Davita is such a large, world wide company. It is not going anywhere.

They did settle a suit in Texas last summer for the same allegations, but were never charged by the feds.

But allegations are just what they are. Every large company has several lawsuits every year.

I worried for a minute.. But, I'm over it. I don't think they are going anywhere..

Charges like this will be years of battle..

And Davita, is still one of the best centers. Put in your app. You'll be fine.

(Plus- there were changes in reimbursement that took effect in 2011- which is why the allegations stop at 2010).

I work for DaVita they treat me extremely well i live in America It treats me extremely well

politics is as politics does who cares

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Dialysis and healthcare in general is a business, for-profit business at that. Nothing about this is going to change - in fact I think we all realize that politics and business acumen are becoming even more important.

I am the most apolitical person around - however, politics is what is behind all these business decisions as reimbursement for dialysis essentially comes from politicians.

No longer can we, the little guys, remain ignorant of politics.

Agreed.

Nor can we just roll over and say, "ah well, that's the way it is."

The ACA (and ACO's)... a single payer system would have (hopefully) prevented runaway corporate monopolies and profiteering on the backs on its workers, and taxpayers.

God help us.

Careful not to choke on those crumbs falling off the table.
