I feel really mixed about my interview with a correctional facility today.

I thought I was being confident but somehow my nervousness pried through.

I wasn't given many questions.

The basic ones were:

What experience do you have?

How can it help here?

How are your assessment skills?

What would you do if an IM came to you limping? How would you handle this?

Could you handle emergencies on your own?

Of course i told them my assessment skills were good, but I think I rambled a bit. I ended up repeating myself a lot.

For the limping question I felt a bit lost. I said I'd see how much they could move their extremity, and how much they were complaining about it. See if there was any heat/swelling. I just feel dumb for what came out of my mouth.

I feel like the interviewers were mixed about me. One of them, the new DON in training really enjoyed me and even said she had my vote when we walked outside together. the facility employee (not the one with the nursing staff) said she was unsure of me being there being a "technically new grad".

The actual DON was very vague about her response to me. I did get a tour of the workplace.

I didn't ask them many questions. I asked what the next step in hiring was/what kind of educational i would have to do

She told me they would run background checks and then call me if they were still interested. But it may take up to a month.

Should I be concerned?

remember, you dont have to have a perfect interview, it just needed to be better than the other candidates!

I wonder what they were looking for with the limping question. I too probably would have said something along the lines of asking how did it happen, describe the pain, assess for obvious bruising, swelling, warmth, deformities etc and then follow a protocol ? Shrug.

Dont forget to send them a thank you and follow up in a week or so to remind them of how interested you are in the position, if that is still the case!

I think it's very normal to lose confidence as the days since your interview continue to pass. With my current job I left feeling 100% confident and smiling all the way to the car, they said they were making decisions within 48hrs. On the 48th hour I was a nervous wreck wondering how I should have said "this" differently or "that" differently, as I was drinking a glass of wine to calm my nerves my recruiter called me, asked me how it went and I rambled on and on about how I had THOUGHT it went well, that I had did the best I could...

Finally he told me I did great and that he just wanted to hear what I had to say (meanie) and offered me the job. I hate interview questions so I always research before I go in, review their mission statement, go over answers to basic questions and go in there knowing my stuff. I'm fairly new too (3years) but I use that to my advantage in a lot of different ways. I have yet to interview and not be hired ! (Knock on wood)

The limping question, and the what-would-you-do type questions always cause a "deer in the headlights vibe", I had one interview for my previous job ask me "what would you do if you were infusing a Med and their Bp bottomed out?" Talk about frozen.

But guess what? I answered and was hired. I'm sure you did great. Don't question yourself so much that you lose sleep. If it's not a good fit it's not a good fit and if you think you could have done better, sit down and formulate a plan for next time!!

Good luck!
