I am an RN with 2 yrs experience in an extremely busy level 3 trauma ED in a rough area along with my current position in an icu, interview on friday for a ft rn in a juv. detention center "the jail side" as the AD called it. Im super excited because I want to get out of the hospital setting, and I think that my ed experience will be a plus. Anyone out there with some advice, do I stand a chance or what are they looking for???? thanks in advance!

Hi I have previously worked in juvenile corrections the "jail" part per se. I also worked ER and Psych ER for 2 years prior to my juvi experience. How did your interview go? Any questions I can answer for you?

thanks for the reply! the interview went well, and i even got a call back about 2 hours after to let me know they will be calling my manager early next week seeing as i am "a serious candidate", so hopefully that means an offer. i am nervous about leaving the hospital setting and embarking on a new career path, but this position seems like it is 50% nurse and 50% teacher which im excited about. are you still working in the juvenile detention center? why did you leave if you are not still there? these hours are m-fri 12-8 no weekends no holidays and the benefits are great, i have 2 young children and i think those hours would be much better than 3 12h shifts including nights which i do now. sorry if i rambled, but id love some input including the good and bad side of working juv. jail. thanks!

Hi Im super late with a reply. Sorry! I enjoyed the juvenile jail I worked level 8 it was very tough and poorly run but I enjoyed working with the kids but they are kids and can get under your skin at times! LOL. Im now PRN at a Level 6 facility. I left previous facility for two reasons: relocate for school and my boss was so unprofessional and was hostile to her staff, and the custodial staff it was truly sickening. How's it going so far? I miss the ER tons!!
