At the DOC that I work with we would be able to carry pepper spray at work if we get sprayed  :crying2:? Would you do this in order to have some extra protection or do you feel safe enough without it to pass on the offer?

Pass.. Don't need it

Yea...ummm I'm not a corrections officer.

That being said, I hate the crap. Always feel like I am about to cough up a lung. Though it is very useful in bringing about compliance. I try to clear the area if at all possible and hide out in my office til it dissipates some.

My fear would be that if I am certified to carry it I could potentially lose my escort if they were busy. I can just see it. No thanks.

In the facility I work, we dont have the option to carry pepperspray. And I feel I do fine without it. Sometimes with our particular occupation I feel its easy to get our role misconstruded. Even though its a more dangerous facility to work than most we are still nurses. We still need to have the window of trust open with our patients and n my opinion I feel it might be a little inhibited with us carrying a weapon.I like to leave the security with the officers, and just focus on the care. If its to give you piece of mind with your paticular safety, Take self defense classes

Thanks for the replies, I've decided not to do it...I just found out I'm pregnant!
