Do correction nurses get paid more than hospital nurses?

Where does the 19 percent come from? I thought it suppose to be about 10 percent reduction and you take 2 furlough days a month due to the 10 percent reduction.

Well from what we have been told we don't get to be off 2 days a month like the DMV we get a 2 day reduction in pay (about 10% cut) and 2 furlough days accrued in our books monthly like vacation time that we could use later. The catch is we can't cash it out and it must be used by sometime in 2012 or lose it, I bet most will be using the accrued furlough time instead of vacation hours since we can bank up to 640 hours of vacation time. As for the 10% what I'm doing is working one 12 hour shift OT to compensate.

Hey guys I will be graduating soon the RN program, do you think that prisons in CA (Los Angeles County) hire new grads? or have some residency programs? I am sorry but I don't have any information about it. I am wondering where to look and I thought that the best and correct answer I will get from you. Are there opportunities in prisons in CA for new grads? Is it dangerous for a girl? What do RNs mainly do there? Thanks a lot!

I went through the online app process here, hope it helps you some..

I live in Maryland and correctional nurses do get paid more than hospital nurses in my area. I would in a county detention center and I get paid more than the state correctional facility in our area.

FYI - I get paid $33 an hour.

Florida DOC

State agency LPN with 5+ years exp $22/hr.

Outside Agency LPN $25/hr.

I am a RN at a SCI in PA--state nurse. I started out at 24.23 in april 07. i am currently making 25.44 with a 3% raise coming in july..

I replied awhile ago when i was a LVN, I even had a argument with someone who didn't even work for the state who would argue with me about pay, she would follow me around. By the way, i was right back then too!!

anyway im a RN now.

state pay vs. hospital pay in california depends where you work.

example....

San francisco Hospital nurses, alot are over 70 a hour.

San Quintin nurse gets about 55-60 a hour.

Now we switch to San Diego.

San Diego hospital nurses get about 30-40 a hour.

Donovan (san diego prison) gets 50 a hour.

all the prisons in california get paid the same, except san quintin and salinas gets more.

so if you live in the sticks, or san diego its way more at the prisons.

if you live in the bay area, even with the bay area prison differential, you make more in the hospitals.

Vermont LPN right out of school getting $23/hourly base, +$1.50 diff 2nd, +$2.25 diff 3rd.

I am probably the lowest paid there (with no experience). It's not bad work, I'll ask for a raise at my 1 year mark.

The local hospital pays an LPN I know $13.45/hourly base.

I work full time at a hospital and part time at a prison. The pay is higher at the prison. I make 33/hr at the correctional facility, no drama, no politics. It's perfect for me. I'm in AZ.

I was offered an interview for a prison here in Michigan and the pay for LPN was $24 hr mon-fri and $25 on weekends.

In Mississippi for night shift RN pay is less than 21/hr. The hospital here is about a dollar more. I lived in another southern state 5 years ago and was making more than this in community health. Needless to say how shocked I am at the pay.
