:chuckle Dixiecup. Please tell us why we don't want to work with CMS. Thanks

I really can't use that kind of language on the forum but the treatment of staff is something less than be desired.:stone

You don't even want to get near that place. I worked there and it was the most evil place you could work. DON'T GO THERE. Also look up on the internet "Correctional Medical Services, Maryland," especially in Missouri.

Hello~ I just interviewed for a DON position with CMS and am wondering why this company has such a bad reputation? I would really appreciate your telling me the things that you know are wrong with it so that I can at least have a heads up before making a decision to take the job. You can IM me if you want. I have just heard over and over that no one wants to work for CMS. Why?????????

same here. in fact, cms has hired me and i am ready to start my orientation. so far, my impression is good. they are professional and work promptly. would you share why some of you have that negative experience? thanks for sharing. jen

hi cindy and jen,

first what state are you working for cms? i'm not sure it it matters since that headquarters are in st. louis, mo. so everyhting comes from the head office. i worked for them for three years in a prison located in ma. they never got our pay checks correct and it was an act of god to get them to cut you a check for the correct amount. they use to say :next paycheck" they will put the difference in. not accetable if the mortgage was due. the inmates were only allowed to have certain meds. if it didn't meet with the criteria of the formulary they simply did not recieve them. alot of our inmates needed certain psych meds and some did not get them because of cost. we had one inmate have a reaction to risperdal when he knew (and we knew) he needed zyprexa. zxprexa costs too much. cms is in it for themselves and to make the $$$ in anyway they can cut costs. after all, their just inmates??? (that's the way we were made to feel) actually aside from why their there, they are someones son, dad or brother. a human. i could go on but here i'll stop. any thoughts????

Thank you for sharing. It must have been frustrated whenever you received incorrect paychecks. I've been there many times in my current working place (hospital) and I know what it is :angryfire . I'll be working in a prison (about 200-250 inmates) located in VT, starting November 1. I'll keep you posted. Thanks,

Jen

Hi Jen,

200-250 inmates, that's not too bad. How many nurses on with you? I loved prison nursing it's just I didn't love working for CMS. Good Luck, I'm sure you'll be fine. Remember NEVER trust an inmate. They're only looking out for themselves and will say or do anything to get what they want. Let me know how it goes for you. Thanks ........

PS: Keep good time logs of what you work so when they don't pay you right you'll have documentation.

I have worked for CMS for the past 4 years. I find them to be a very professional, accountable organization. My paycheck has never been wrong. They have a fabulous orientation program. They have excellent benefits and great time off. They are supportive of the staff. Management staff is oriented in St Louis, at an all expense paid week in the nicest Sheraton Hotel I have ever seen. It was the most comprehensive week of orientation I have ever had in almost 40 years of being a nurse. I cannot say enough good stuff about CMS. Unfortunately they have lost the contract in our area to PHS. Have no idea of what expect from them. Anybody know PHS? I am supposing it is going to just be same church, different pew. But if anyone knows anything different about PHS, would love to hear it. Are there any surprises for me?
