Yale New Haven Hospital and Bridgeport CT area hispital starting salaries

U.S.A. Connecticut

I just graduated with an ADN in December of 2013 and am interested in applying to YNHH and was wondering what are the likelihood of me getting hired there and the starting salary for ADN-RN?

I have completed 2 externships.. one at Bellevue Hospital ED in New York, NY as a student nurse extern and one at Woodhull medical center ED in Brooklyn NY as a graduate nurse extern. I am currently enrolled in a RN to BSN online program also.

I appreciate any advice u can give me on looking for jobs and interviewing for jobs. I'm from NYC and plan to move to Bridgeport-New Haven CT area soon

CT, new RN, ADN, Bridgeport, new haven

I don't work at Yale but I work up in Hartford and know lots of nurses that do work there, and as far as I know they only hire BSN nurses now. It's a very competitive hospital so I'm not sure how successful you'd be with an ADN. Can hurt to try though and it looks good that you're already enrolled in a program. CT is hard to break into acute care with no experience. I would guess that the salary starts somewhere in the 20s but I can't be more exact than that.

Bridgeport Hospital hires new grads. There is a need for night nurses part time and full time positions available in all of the ICUs. Bridgeport is part of YNHH. Yale is very hard to get in especially as a new nurse. There are nurses with experience in my unit that can't even get in. I do think you should try applying anyway and see what happens. You never know. Good luck :)

Bridgeport starts in the high 20s.

Thanks for the info. How's Hartford hospital? Do they hire new adn grads?

As far as I know, no. Neither does St. Francis, or at least not on the more acute floors and definitely not in the ICUs. You could try the med surg floors and the ED. They are always looking in the ED.

Not so. They do hire ADN's but they prefer BSN's. Several of my friends work for Yale (and their daughter hosptials of Greenwich, St Ray's and Bridgeport Hospital) and they are ADN's..a few are new grads.

CT is pretty abysmal for new grads...esp those of us who are ADN's. There are hospitals that hire new grads (ADN or BSN). They are hard to get into unless you 'know' someone. Very difficult to get into the ICU's and critical care areas as a new grad and esp as a new grad ADN.

You have to read the job postings, some (for the same floors) will say experience required or BSN required, others don't mention exp..you just have to look through them all to see which one will take a new grad and/or ADN.

Specializes in MICU.

hello! I was hired as a new grad BSN to the st. raphs MICU in 2012. Since then the hospital is now YNHH. At st raphs i was paid 27.25 an hour and was increased to 29 an hour when we became YNHH. I know YNHH hires new grads (not sure if you have to be BSN or not) but it definitely is difficult to get your foot in the door. Good luck! They had a general hiring freeze for a while during the st raphs acquisition but that is over now so just apply to everything!

Their official stance is no, even for employees who have worked there for X number of years. I do know one of my classmates with an ADN was hired on as a nurse though, so there could be extenuating circumstances.

And St. Francis most definitely hires ADNs into critical units...I just started my residency on one :)

YNHH new hires start at 27.50 (going up to 28.50 next month)

I'll be heading up that way for a travel assignment soon, anyone have any advice on what areas to stay in and which to avoid?

which hospital/facility are you working at? new haven and Bridgeport are maybe 30 minutes apart so the answer is dependent
