Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2010

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

I was hoping to continue a great thread that I read last year, Ready to Apply CT Colleges 2009. It was a bunch of people looking to get into the CT Community Colleges nursing program for 2009-2010 academic year! They really banded together and answered questions for each other.

I was hoping to start the same thing for this year.

So, applications for the 2011-2012 year come out in just over a month. November 1st!!!

What has everyone been doing to prepare for the application process. What classes are you currently taking? Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? What was your score? What school is your 1st choice?

Speak up people!

For those that were taking A&P II this semester, conditional acceptances were based on getting better than a C+ in A&P II. I don't remember seeing anything in my letter about a deposit, I haven't paid any money yet. Did I miss something?

Yes, I am waiting for A&P II grades to be posted and for Orientation to be completed this week. The orientation typically scares some kids out of the program (usually because they don't understand how intense it is going to be or can't afford to lessen/not work) and there are those few kids who don't get the required C+ in A&P II. After all of that has calmed down I might call the admissions office and see how much movement has happened on the wait list. I heard that 3 kids have already been moved off of the 3R list.

what school are you waiting for?

Just remember guys, I didn't find out I came off the waitlist until July 21st for Jan 10'. I was 19th. So RELAX! Things take time.

I'm waiting for Three Rivers! Woooo! Lol :)

Just thought I would write in this thread to bump it up a little and perhaps ask if anyone has been taken off the waitlist for GCC?

I am telling myself that the 2010-2011 is a no-go for me now, this way if they never get to me, then no harm right?

I've decided to focus on the 2011-2012 application process. I know it seems far far into the future- but what else am I going to do. The sad part is that I dont have any classes to take. I've taken all of my non-nursing classes and got B's and mostly A's in them... so its not even worth taking a class over.

I guess I will just focus on the TEAS because that seems to be the only thing that I can change this time around. Last year I got an 83.9 but I guess that wasn't competitive enough- since I am in the thirties on the waiting list- just doesn't seem to make sense to me- but I digress.

Good luck to the students of 2010-2011:yeah:

orourkco,

I checked on June 11 & the list hadn't moved at all since I last checked on May 11th, when the list had moved 2 spots. It was pretty disappointing that it hadn't moved at all in a month.

I'm with you... at this point I'm going to focus on next year. I signed up to retake A&P I, since I did well, but not incredibly well. I can't really change my GPA significantly & I did really well on the TEAS. So... A&P this fall is my only real way to change anything for next year. It will also give me something concrete to work on in terms of nursing school. If I get a last-minute phone call asking if I want to start this year? Of course... but at this point I'm not holding my breath anymore. I about lost it when I saw an incoming call from GCC... and then they just wanted to update my contact info. I got my hopes up for like 30 seconds before she finally spit out what she was calling about. FRUSTRATING!!

Who knows... Matt says it's not too late -- to stay positive. Maybe the list will move in big jumps... just not between May/June 11... I guess that means I shouldn't check on July 11... I just don't want to know if it hasn't moved!!

Not much more movement is going to happen now in regards to the Fall semester. August MIGHT see one more movement, plus the LPN - RN admits might not go through with the program, but the next round won't be until November when the Spring admits have to register. I'm signed up for 3 classes for the Fall, but I'm still banking on Spring semester.

Good luck!

SO.... I'll start telling myself next year will be the year. Unfortunately, if its not next year- then its no year at all. Not to sound like I am not 100% wanting to pursue a nursing degree, its just that I have three small children and things like time/school/work need to fit... and so that means one more year of trying.

Its so disappointing. I also wish that they could enter your transcirpts somewhere, so that you don't have to keep submitting transcirpts this year... oh well...

kangaroo- good luck with A&P again. At least you will have something to focus on.

yea it sucks when sooo many people who don't want to be nurses for the right reasons, apply and get accepted over the people who apply for the right reasons! There needs to be a interview process for people who get accepted into these programs. If there is, you would see the amount of people applying drop or at least you'd see better qualified people in class! Keep your hopes up! If its meant to be, it will happen!

Thank you Matt,

I have been going to school for the longest time. I cannot wait to be in the program. I have the opportunity of being in different states because my husband was constanly moving with the coast guard, and I had the chance to experienced the system of different states, few of then will interview you before they accept you into the program. it's a shame, and frustating to know that people that does not have the calling for nursing but are extremely smart(second degree) get in into the program without having bedside manners. I love nursing cannot and will not give up my dream. with the economy so bad now everyone wants to make money out nursing career without even knowing what nursing is all about. thank you for reading my negative comment
