How is everyone gettig their text books

Hi, I was accepted to Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing and got the book list. Yikes, its like $1500 of books. Any suggestions?

Rent what you can, or use older editions. You can also try ebooks, they are cheaper.

My Lvn school forced us to purchase all of the $1500 books as a reqmt to enroll.

Rn school had ~1000 worth of books. I went on Amazon and saved a few hundred, to be later told that we need access to the electronic freebies only given to those who purchased from the publisher direct/aka the bookstore.

So I just spent ~475 on books from the book store for fall term of rn school!

I saved up money to pay for books, though my income isn't high.

Depends on what classes you're taking but I would rent as many as possible, especially for any non-nursing classes (is Bridgeport a 4-year nursing program, or do you have to do pre-reqs first and then last 2 years are officially a nursing student?). My assessment books and "specialty" books (my medsurg book, mostly) I use quite a bit even now, but I never opened my health promotion book again. I regret ever even buying my nursing research and theory book, my community health book, and my leadership books. Definitely should have rented, as I never looked at any of these ever again nor do I suspect I ever will. With google at my fingertips I can easily look anything up about these topics, and the textbooks that my college used were mediocre at best. Renting gives you a taste of what the book is like and, if you find yourself liking it and for some reason wanting to keep it, you can always go back later and buy it.

Thank you for your response. I am done with all pre req classes and I am starting nursing courses in September.

I've heard it said that notes will be used way more than books. I bought one older edition book for $10. I'm going to rent one other. I have a lot of loan money left over but have to wait for it to be disbursed.

I am going to be honest, I was in BPT hospital SON back in Aug 2012 and I was able to get EVERY single book from the local libraries through Inter-library loan throughout CT. Its alot of work but it'll save you alot of money in the long run. You just have to keep re-renting your textbooks every few months, but you wont pay a dime ;)

Thank you for this info...when you say local libraries where exactly do you mean? I use Burroughs and Saden in Bport.

I did do some traveling for them .....like to ct northwestern I think. but if you can get them shipped to your library with interlibrary loan you may not have to travel
