Chrissy,

Nursing school is not something to do quickly.

Don't give yourself anymore stress (nursing school is stressful enough!!).

My advice is wait until you have settled. Will you have enough time in CO to finish school? If hubby goes overseas, will you be able to stay back in the states to finish school? If you work out of the states national accreditation would be meaningless, wouldn't it? In my neck of the woods the waiting lists are about 2yrs wait. Are there finacial issues why you NEED to work so quickly?

Lots of random thoughts without specifics.

It took me almost 8 yrs to get my associates. I know all about life getting in the way of nursing school!!!

Good luck! I'm happy to be someone for you to bounce ideas off!!

I strongly suggest you reconsider your position. It really doesn't sound like nursing school is going to "fit" into your schedule, at least not while you're here in Colorado. Wait lists are usually long; acceptance rates are quite low and VERY competitive; classes are brutal.

GL in whatever you decide to do.

Actually, SemperFi didn't say anything about changing your dreams. S/he said maybe you should reconsider your position while in Colorado. S/he's right. If I'm not mistaken, you said you might have 3 years in Colorado to complete your degree. The truth is, you could be waitlisted for that long. As SemperFi pointed out, nursing school acceptance rates are low and very competitive. These are simply facts; you do not have to like or agree with them -- they just "are."

Have you even started on prerequisites yet? You could do that no matter where you are, at any accredited school. That way, those credits will transfer to another school. Plus, you won't get accepted to ANY nursing school without having finished the prerequisites. That's how the system works.

You came here asking for "help," and you have been given help. But it sounds to me like you actually want someone to validate your plan, someone to say, "Oh, yes, you're absolutely on the right track. You can get into school in Colorado and everything will run like clockwork." Sorry, but that's not the case. Nursing school is sort of a crapshoot: sometimes the odds are in your favor, and sometimes they're not. And if it turns out that attending nursing school in Colorado simply won't fit your timeline, then your best bet is not to fly off the handle over it but to step back, consider the facts, and formulate some contingency plans.

Hey, wait...that sounds an awful lot like NURSING! :lol2:

We've seen several instances of people getting in bad situations because they were trying to work nursing school around military commitments. I would advise you to find an area with many programs where you just make the decision to stay until you finish school. Even if you anticipate where your husband's future duty station will be, it can change. The military is good about telling someone they will be going to A in (insert date) then changing the assignment to B or even C. So, once you are at the point of applying to nursing programs and starting one, you should try to make your own stable situation, even if it means a separation. Otherwise, you may not finish nursing school for a very, very long time. JMO.

Cutiepie,

I went to nursing school in Colorado and did not know of any programs that were specifically geared to military spouses and a fast-track schedule. The only thing I can possibly think of are accelerated nursing programs, where the candidate needs to have a previous bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing, takes the nursing pre-requisite courses, and through a 12-16 month program, grants the student a bachelor's of science in nursing degree. I have heard of some associate degree programs that train a student as a lpn (1 year school) and then bridge over to RN with another year's coursework. Many private nursing schools do not have waiting lists, but are definately more expensive--upwards of $30K per year. There are many options to weigh.

Going to the colorado state board of nursing will be a good start for you at http://www.dora.state.co.us/nursing/, from here you can find a list of nursing schools and their NCLEX (nursing board exam) pass rates.

Good luck to you!
