HealthOne hospitals-What are they like

What's it like to work in any one of the HealthOne/HCA hospitals in the Denver area, such as Swedish Medical Center, Sky Ridge, Medical Center of Aurora etc? I'm thinking of applying to different places in Denver.

I worked at Aurora, it was fine at first and then everyone left..such as management, nurses, doctors..a lot of gossip, back stabbing there, they pay way lower than what I deserved. But I learned a lot and I wouldn't take back the experience and all the things I have learned. I heard Swedish is great. Look into them.

Swedish is a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, Health One pays their RNs considerably less per hour than the Exempla or Centura hospital systems or DH. However, they have an excellent benefits package. I worked at Swedish briefly after leaving an Exempla hospital; the improved working conditions and IMO better management were worth the pay cut for me.

They do pay very low! I'm making 3 dollars more now that I left.

What is the management and administration like at Swedish right now? There seems to be a continual ebb and flow of RN vacancies and I question the turnover rate.

I work at an HCA hospital and I would not recommend it. I hear Healthone was better before HCA bought them. The health insurance is the worst of any hospital in the city. So even if your payscale ends up being the same as another hospital (which it probably won't) you'll shell out more for your monthly premiums, deductibles and out of pocket maximums. Maybe it's not a big deal because you are single, but once you have a husband or family it will bite you in the butt!

Ebb and flow of RN vacancies? Every application I put in for Swedish is immediately marked "Not Under Consideration".

The market is still pretty bleak for new grads across the state, but considerably better than it was three years ago.
There seems to be a high turnover rate for experienced RNs in several of the specialty areas of Health One hospitals. The 2011(?) buyout by HCA and some administration/management changes may be a contributing factor.
