CCConline A&PII

U.S.A. Colorado

Hey,

Does anyone have any reviews about the CCC online Bio 202 A&P II class. I feel like I learn best in class settings, however all the on-campus courses for bio 202 are all filled for next semester so I think I am going to have to take the online version.

Does anyone have any advice? I will be working full time but this will be the only class I am taking so I can spend my evenings and weekends dedicated to the course.

Is it possible to start on the labs right away (I heard they are the most time consuming) or does the course require you to finish certain parts before moving on to the next.

Are there online lectures that you watch, or is it mostly just quizzes, discussions and readings?

Thanks!

Ariel

What nursing school are you going to apply to? Some of them will not accept A&P from other colleges, like Regis. I would check before spending money on courses you may need to retake.

Hey scaredsilly, I have already looked into it and the course won't show up as an online course...it will also go through the same school i took a&p I at. Have you taken a CCConline course?

I don't have advice, but I am taking A&P I through CCConline fall semester (home college is FRCC). I'm working and the other classes didn't fit around my schedule. I know that the courses are the same as through a community college. You get the lab paq sent to you (the class starts beginning of September, not Aug 18 like the others) and you have to buy a microscope. And it shows up on your transcript the same as A&P taken on campus. I've already checked with the programs I am applying to and they accept it.

I just took A&P II online this summer through CCCO. I did A&P I in the classroom at Front Range CC. Like you, I couldn't make A&P II work with my schedule. For the online class, there are no lectures -- basically you just read the book and there are a lot of interactive thingies where you watch instructional videos and fill out related worksheets each week.

The labs can be somewhat time consuming (my pig dissection took two days), but they weren't challenging and there weren't many of them. I did the summer class, and I don't know if that's why it was condensed, but we only turned in 5 or 6 labs. The rest (maybe 5 or 6) we were supposed to do on our own, and then there were one or two questions on them on the exam. So that was kind of nice. Although it's hard to do all the dissections on your own -- I'm not great at them anyway, so you miss out on having someone guide you.

All in all, not too bad. I didn't get as much out of it as I did in the classroom. But hey, no lab exams. I'm going to be taking pathophys online this fall because I can't make it work around my schedule. :/

Thank you so much for the information! I actually have a few more questions...

1) Do you think it is possible to do get in A in the class?

2) About how many hours did you put in a week?

3) How are the lecture exams? I assume since the are open book that they try to trick you up... did you find this true?

4) Do you have any recommendations about doing well in the course?

thanks!!

I got a 95% in the class, but my super power seems to be anatomy and physiology. I had over a 100% in my first A&P class in the classroom.

Everyone says II is harder, and I think that's true. The lecture exams .... they weren't too bad -- I always did 90% or better except for one that kicked my ass because I hadn't studied as much and it was on physiology, which I'm not as great at. Tests are not open book, but they definitely try to trick you up. I think that's true with A&P in general -- you have to be very careful reading over the words.

They are nuts about cheating. Every week our professor would post something like, "I can tell when you've copied something from the internet and you will get an F for the assignment." I imagine she was encountering a lot of plagiarism.

I put in a lot of hours. I'm not sure how many. I'm kind of crazy though and really wanted an A. I read each chapter twice -- I think that's THE best way to go.

I think online is totally easy to get an A. All the 14 chapter tests were only 20% of the entire grade, which is not a huge chunk. Another 20% of the entire grade was the MasteringA&P (MAP) assignments (the supplemental website we have access to). In MAP, each chapter we had a short reading quiz and "homework," which usually involved labeling diagrams from the book. Very easy. Also they had a bunch of Practice Anatomy Lab exercises, kind of like a lab exam. Easy, untimed.

As long as you keep up with the work, finish the labs on time (25% of grade), do decently on the quizzes, and make sure you participate in the discussions (10% of grade), it's pretty easy to get an A. There is a midterm and a final (that thankfully only covered content midterm onward) that are 20% of the grade, but they are almost all repeated questions from the chapter tests. So definitely study the questions you get wrong. They also pick a lot of questions from the practice chapter tests in the "Study Area" of MAP. So I'd recommend going through those before each test.

Hope I've helped. :)

I don't know if it was because I took the summer class, so they cut out some of the labs, but we were not required to buy a microscope and had no labs that required it. We used PAL whenever we were looking at histology.

I have a lot of friends who are applying to the accelerated program at Regis and taking A&P at FRCC/CCCO. I think the only big deal is that you HAVE to take A&PII at the same institution you take A&PI.

This is so helpful!!! thank you so so so much. I also had a question about the pig...where did you keep it and does it smell?

Actually it comes triple wrapped in plastic and you can keep it in the lab kit until you use it. You also have a sheep heart and kidney to dissect prior to the pig lab. None of it smelled too bad -- can't smell anything until you open the bags.

Then you can actually discard everything in your household trash. I didn't because that's gross and I didn't want to smell it anymore, but you can discard it like you would anything else.

That is all very helpful RedNurse! Thank you. I'm looking forward to the class. I had to take an animal anatomy class for vet tech school, and I loved it.
