Where are all the MAs?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hey everyone!

Just wondering where all the Medical Assistants are at? How are you guys doing in your career? Do you have jobs? Are you certified? Just checkin in with the MAs...As for me I graduated in 2010 and I just became nationallly certified, but haven't found a job. Hopefully I move soon to San Francisco because I have noticed more MAs are in need there..

So yeah! Just kind of like a MA Check IN. I also wanted to know how many MAs want to become a nurse like me and have you began your journey?:specs:

Hi everyone. MA Student here ... eagerly waiting for classes to start! I've done medical transcription for the past few years. It was a good career when I started in it but I've found working at home is too isolating and I like the idea of having both clinical and administrative job duties.

I was a park time student last semester but will be FT for the next 2 semesters. I wouldn't mind going forward for LPN but as a single mom of a 7 yr old, I need to work full time once I finish MA so I don't think that will be possible (not until he is much older).

CMA here, entering my nursing program this fall....at age 53!

I've worked in asthma & allergy, neurology, dermatology and pulmonary medicine as well as general practice. I decided to take the last part of the summer off to kind of get myself mentally prepped to start school in the fall, also to get a few things done around the house as I know I'm not going to have any spare time or vacation time once school get rolling.

I am looking for a job too CTH3989! I just passed the pre screening test for Sutter Health so I am waiting for an interview now:)

Great! I am starting prerequisites to get into the RN program. So I will probably be working full time soon and in school. How exciting lol I original actually wanted to be a RN but at the time MA was there and I chose to get my foot in the door with it. I love it though.:)

Hello! Good to hear from you! I am hoping to do the same thing! I am just beginning prerequisites though so I am sure I have a long way to go til entering the Nursing Program!

Specializes in LTC, OB/GYN, Special needs.

I obtained my MA in 2007. I was able to find work but found it paid VERY little :(. I Have been in auto insurance since 2008 and decided it was time to get back into the game and go for nursing ( my DREAM). I start in Aug. Should be interesting since I have to maintain my full time job and have 2 small kids (4 and 1) I have to complete my prerequisites before I can even apply for the program. Since I am only able to attend school part time its going to take me all of 5 years before I finish. Depressing but totally worth it :)

I was wondering if any of you MA's out there have any advice as to whether attending an accredited program is necessary. I found a school that offers the certificate but the school is non-accredited. The program is shorter an less expensive than the accredited programs I have found. The job marked here in the bay area is tough and I don't want to put a lot of time and money into an MA program and possibly not find work. I am an aspiring RN by the way, but really want to get into healthcare sooner than later.

Seriously? That would be a waste of time and money. If you are going to do the program look at accredited programs and no others. Would you attempt an unaccredited nursing school?

Received my diploma in Medical Assistance back in 2002. I was lucky to obtain employment at the Dr's office where I did my externship for school. After I moved to be with my BF at the time it actually took me a while to find employment in the medical field but after working at a dr's office for less than a year I was able to get employed at the local hospital as a Tech in the ICU. Currently I've been employed at the hospital for 8 years and will start my second semester of associate degree RN program in T minus 9 days. I'm very thankful that I have 10+ yrs of experience in the medical field because while my class mates are learning critical thinking skills I'm already critically thinking.
