What I have learned as a CNA

Nursing Students CNA/MA

i have learned that when i feel i have nothing left to give and my feet feel like there is a 150lb weight anchored to them, a call light goes off, and i will run to it.

i have learned that hearing a heartfelt thank you from my patients can make my night.

i have learned that having a big heart is priceless. :redbeathe

i have learned that patients will leave footprints on my heart. some have left little marks, others have left gaping holes.

i have learned that for every belligerent and verbally abusive patient, there are 18 nice ones who really do appreciate me.

i have learned that i am never to tired to give a hug to someone who reaches out for one.

i have learned that it is ok to cry when a patient dies. it does not mean that i am a sap. it means that i have a heart. :redbeathe

i have learned that wishing a 93yo little old lady happy 16th birthday every day, makes her giggle ;)

i have learned that no matter how thankless and back breaking being a cna is, i still go in every night because i enjoy helping people. i am in my element when i am helping others out.

i have learned that laughter is the best sound in the world. especially that of someone who has been having a heck of a time adjusting to big changes.

i have learned that changing the tv channel, or fluffing someone's pillow takes few seconds.

i have learned that the elderly are shells of their former selves and they deserve a lot of respect for making it thus far in this thing called life.

i have learned to smile through the tears.

i have learned that life is too often taken for granted and to not live a moment in regret.

(i have learned that drinking beer makes me pensive) :smokin:

Thanks for all you do for people who may not always be able to say it. If I ever end up in LTC, I hope someone like you is taking care of me.

Yup. You've got it. A nice "thank you" or "you are gonna make a great nurse, I can just tell you were meant to do this" really does make me smile like a kid in a candy store. And it keeps me going, and makes me love my job, and makes me hope I never burn out. (or rather, it makes me fear burning out)

You are simply amazing. I can't thank you enough for being just who you are, and posting such a wonderful message.

Your residents are lucky to have such a caring person to help them

Thank you for your kind words. I teared up reading your post :redpinkhe

you dont know how much that phrase you wrote means to me. I've been working at a assisted living facility for a few months. For the second time I was called the 'N' word by a resident. But your phrase helped me to take the focus off that negative experience at work and think of all the wonderful moments i have with my other residents and the joy and laughter we bring to each others days. Thank you!

You're welcome. I am sorry that you were called the 'n' word. That is just horrible :crying2:

This is so great! You have a beautiful heart and you definitely have what it takes to be in this field!:yeah:

I've learned that just because you can delegate as a nurse, doesn't mean you must delegate. I worked 7 hours last night before I got my break, but the nurse that delegated tasks was checking out her Facebook account and drinking more coffee.

I will never take a break knowing someone else isn't able to.
