private sitting

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I am currently jobless, and looking at private sitting work to make some income on the side. I am a licensed CNA in the state of Texas...

What kind of pay should I be asking for, because I have never done this type of thing before.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Since you are a CNA, you should be looking for at least the low end of CNA wages. I have seen CNA/HHA jobs listed for $9 to $12 an hour. Why not just do a home health job and get paid at the higher end of the range? HHA/CNAs can make an average of $12 an hour doing home health. You can work for private clients or through an agency.

Honestly, nothing is moving right now in the area I live in. I have applied at nursing homes, hospitals... you name it.

And, the lady that emailed me asking if I would take on her sitting job only wants to pay me $100 for 48 HOURS of work.

I am posting part of the email she sent me to tell me what the job would partially entail.

@CoffeemateCNA, that was about my reaction too...

They don't want you to be responsible for much for $2.08 an hour. I think you should pass that gem of a job by.

I sent her an email telling her that I couldn't do it for anything less than $8 an hour... That's the absolute lowest I am willing to go. She never replied back.

I have found this to be the case, too. Hospice seems a bit better deal, though

There can be more money in this than a hospital or a LTC if you have a great agency. You may need to be there a while to get the best routes. Watch out in these rural areas, most private pay folks live in the middle of nowhere and it can be a huge drive. Some of the private gigs are starting not to pay mileage, either.

Most of the time anyone has ever talked to me about private, it has always been cheap. They want me to drive them around, cook, clean house, wash clothes, and be a personal manservant for no money. It is also biased towards female workers.

How insulting. $2 an hour! My boyfriend is an artist with a degree and he found a classified ad wanting someone to do a huge painting (basically a mural) for free. The ad stated that they didn't want to have to pay anything but the artist should be grateful to get his/her name out to the public. Um, what? "Name recognition" or whatever he was talking about doesn't put a roof over your head or food in your stomach. Do you know how long it takes to paint a mural? How many hours? Some people have nerve, I guess.

RUN!!!!!!!!

Please I know things are hard, but $2.08/hr?!?! That's insulting. You'd be better off working @ McDonalds, at least they'll give you MINIMUM WAGE!

Google home health agencies in your area. In my experience, some home health agencies pay sort of low, while some pay better than nursing homes.

Have you considered assisted living? My first CNA job after I got licensed was @ an assisted living facility. They tend to hire new CNA's alot because the turnover rate is very high.

Finally, I've done private sitting & it was booooooring. Yea you do get to provide one on one care, but still..

Good luck :)
