Passed cna in Northern California

Hi, jus passed the cna recently what suggestions or jobs can I do with this certificate? Is any hospitals hiring? Which pay is better in nursing care home or in hospitals ? I wanna work in northbay hospital in my area, located in Fairfield, northern cali. Would like to know some suggestions or recommendations on what jobs can I do or which is better to work at? Also what is HHA? Thank you in advance for your replies.

HHA= Home Health Aide. Which is technically one step below a CNA.

If it is your goal to work in a hospital, typically they want 6 months experience in a long term care facility (Nursing home). However, if there is a large demand for CNA's in your area, they may hire you without that experience, but that is unlikely.

Hospitals generally pay more, but not always.

Hospitals will often provide additional training.

Again, you will probably need at least 6 months experience in a nursing home before any hospital will even look at your resume.

Hi ! Your best bet is in nursing homes. All over California nursing homes are hiring. Hospitals are hard to get into , but you should always apply anyways! Hospitals always look for experience. Nursing homes I feel are harder work and less pay , but they're easier to get into. Hospitals pay more. It depends on where you go. I'm from Southern California and I found a CNA job in a nursing home for 14$ an hour. You can also look into Home health Agencies!

Not "hospitals require 6 months training(bedside)!! .....it's hospitals require 6 months EXPERIENCE. There IS a difference between "training" and "experience"

"Training" = learning/being taught, and "experience"= actually doing the job (without a teacher watching over you), and being paid for it.

No, school clinicals do NOT count as experience.

Not ALL hospitals require 6 months experience. It just depends on the demand for CNA's in your area.

It wouldn't hurt to apply to a hosptial. The only thing it would cost you is your time. Don't be suprised if you don't get called for an interview tho. Like I said, they most likely want 6 months of long term care experience (nursing home) before they would even consider you.

Congratulations! You had your 1st step in Nursing career. I hope you can share your experience with me as I am about to take mine maybe this month. I'm starting to freak out, my fundamental was 5 years ago. I am planning to take mine at Northern CA Nxg Academy in Daly City. i browse the net and watch videos..kinda confusing because they have different steps. Did you follow/review the the one on the booklet from NNAAP?

Hospitals are nice to work at and they probably are the places that will be about the highest for start wages but as everyone said it can be hard to get into a hospital. There can be many many apps for one hospital job, and like the others say experience is sometimes wanted and many CNAs are also in nursing school.

As for other areas you could look into LTCs Retirement Homes, Rehab, Home Care ( which I am doing and love it) Homes for the disabled, Hospitals or Homes for VETs just to name a few. Good luck I am sure there will be some place for you that you will like.
