Im wounding now if I should have done CNA or LPN ? Because it seems to be more openings for cna's and lpn's.

I need help!!!!!

Sorry that you were provided unrealistic expectations about job openings for medical assistants. Yes, it is true that there are more opportunities for CNAs and LPNs, but in general, the job market for everyone is not so great. If you have the means, it would be a good idea to become a CNA. Good luck.

I too went to school for Medical Assisting and never got a job until I moved out of state. The job I did get was through a temp agency. The agency then told me three months later that Doctors were only looking for MA's with at least 1 year of experience. Geesh! That was back in 2008. I am now trying to become an LVN (LPN) here in Texas because they have a better chance with jobs. The CNA's also have a good chance here at LTC and hospitals. I wish I had gone to school for LPN long ago I would be working in the medical field already, which is what I wanted in the first place.

I hate to hear you had to go through the same thing I went through. I warn my friends all the time "Don't do it". I'm not bashing MA's because some do get jobs but there are so many job postings and nobody hires without 1 year of experience or being certified. :(

Specializes in NICU, PICU, Transport, L&D, Hospice.

My experience is that if you want to work in the primary care setting (a doctor's office) you will have greater success as an MA.

That is true, a primary care physician will hire with no experience but you also have thousands of other applicants applying for the same job. I was able to get into an OB clinic for the few months I did get to use my skills. Also try applying for Medical Records and Medical Secretary positions, that will at least get your foot in the door and you'll be able to show the Doctor your back office skills and go from there.
