How Long Did It Take U To Find A Job?

Hi Everyone,

I passed my state test on Sunday and I'm wondering how long it takes to get a job as a CNA in a nursing home? I really need a job asap, I'm a broke nursing student and I have almost 2 more years left of a 4 year program. My school is very expensive and I'm tired of taking out so much loans, so I have decided to work part time as a CNA to earn some money and gain some experience.

The reason why I prefer working in a nursing home is that I plan on working as a geriatric nurse in the future. I was raised by a loving grandmother whom I loved very dearly, she passed away a couple of years ago. I love being around elderly people because they remind me of my grandmother.

How do I go about getting a job in a nursing home as fast as possible?

All the nursing homes always need CNA so it shouldn't take long to get a job. The only thing that may hold you up some is the fact that you dont have any experience. In the mean time go online and put in some applications and upload your resume to some companies. Try monster.com, employmentguide.com, and careerbuilder.com Good Luck!!!

you could have taken a position as a nurse tech, in a hospital without getting a cna cert. all you need to become a tech is to be in clinicals. also that position pays better.

I already have a job interview with a nursing home for next week.

As for getting a job as a nurse tech, I thought you had to finish fundamentals first.

I got a job within two weeks of passing my CNA test. I just called a couple of nursing homes in my area and asked if they were hiring. One of them was, so I came in, got an application, filled it out and brought it back and HR called me the next day to schedule and interview.

I was wondering the same thing too noni06. I can tell you loved your grandmother a lot just by the way you spoke of her and I am sorry you now have that void in your life. :(

I'm in classes now and our instructor said that we could start filling out applications anytime. They have them right there at the Red Cross and people from different facilities will be in there to talk to us about their employment opportunities. I'm excited and scared.

I like the information that I am gaining from this message board but I also can't decide if it is making me more afraid. One minute I'm thinking I can do it and then the next minute I'm left wondering if I can. I quit my job the second week of January so I just hope it doesn't take too long after I get certified to get a job. The help wanted ads around here are overflowing with jobs for CNA's so I'm hoping that it won't take long. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I actually started working before I took my state board. It was about three to four weeks after I applied for the job when I was hired, but that was because the facility was new and not slated for opening quite yet. I would imagine that it would be a more quick turnaround in a nursing home, especially if the nursing homes in your area are as shorthanded as the nursing homes in my area.

Can you tell me what a Nurse Tech is ? What is the pay scale (Michigan)? What schooling would I need for this? Thanks in advance!

Hi. I'm trying to find out which career path to take. I'm trying to decide between a Nurse Assist. & Medical Assist. Any advice as for as Pay scale and job duties. Someone also mentioned a nurse tech job. What is a nurse tech?

Thank you guys for all your help. Finally got a job at a LTC facility near my home. I start orientation tomorrow for a whole week. I have to miss school for the orientation, but it is worthy it.

I have another stupid question, do you get paid for orientation? I forgot to ask my interviewer.
