Haven't worked in awhile....

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I don't know where to post this and I've looked online and can't find any straight answers. Hopefully someone here can help. I was a CNA for almost 5 years. I haven't worked since 12/03 (a month before my 1st was born). I tried going back and only worked for a weekend in 2005 (not sure if that counts for anything, lol) but didn't like being away from my son. Anyway... I was wondering if I decided I wanted to work again, would I have to take the whole course over again? Or just the test? Or what? Anyway any advice?

What state do you live in? I think in Texas after two years it expires and you have to take the class again.

Contact the agency that issued your CNA certificate and find out from them what you need to do.

I'm in NY.....I was thinking about calling a hospital or nursing home and asking the DON or something. I'm surprised I can't find anything online. I too think it's every 2 years. If I have to take the class over again I'm not even going to bother. I just wanted to work a little while I'm in school for the extra money. Anyway, thanks guys!

Contact the board that held your certification. If you can find it online, they may even have your answer without a phone call. I'm in GA and it's required to work at least 8 hours as a CNA every 2 years to keep your certification.

i havent worked in 3 years and I was told to take the test both written and clinical again which i amdoing next week it cost 150.00
