I am new in the CNA program but I want to make sure I am practicing right. My test is not until December but I am already having anxiety attacks about the skills parts because I have heard of so many people failing. Do we need to wash our hands before each skill or do we just say we already washes our hands? I know that we are supposed to wash our hands after each skill because it says so in the skills book. Has anyone taken the skills test after July since the new changes were made? I am in California.

We had to wash hands once in the beginning to demonstrate that we know how to wash hands correctly. After that, if the procedure requires washing hands, you would say so instead of actually washing hands. You should ask the instructors in your CNA program as well.

You have anxiety attacks because you fear failure. It is okay to fail. Everyone fails! Learn as much as you can during the program and review the major skills to reduce the chances of failure, but remember that failure can always occur no matter how well-prepared you are.

HEY!!! I thought i would comment on your post because i'm fresh out of my CNA Course in August and i wanted to give you some tips. So when the time gets closer or now you could probably ask your instructor if you may receive a guideline for your skills test. if you need special accommodations as well i suggest you put in a form now to get the extra time. or special privileges so you can be more at ease. and you can practice at home or with a buddy. all i can say is STUDY and PRACTICE but DON'T over think it so much.its all common sense. But practice so you can get into the routine of doing your skills. That way you will be less stress come test date. It is not good to be overly stressed on your skills day.that's how you make silly mistakes. even if you do make a mistake, you have the right to ask the instructor to start over. try to be as calm as possible. and maybe do some breathing exercises as well. It also Depends on what state you are from and in your guideline it will tell you which skill you need to wash your hands for. prior to doing so and always at the end. I watched a lot of YouTube videos and it helped me a TON! ill post the link that i watched and attach it below. BC This channel REALLY helped me. I passed all 4 skills on the first try with flying colors. Passed all of my in class test. so i know what i am advising you will really help you in the long run. i am taking my written this Saturday. which is when i will hopefully be licensed. So i suggest practicing until December. and keep to your textbook. start remembering your definitions and abbreviations. They are very important to remember especially when you do get into the work field you will need to chart correctly. You will have to know what certain abbreviations and key terms are in order to do you job. Good Luck and I hope you PASS. Stay positive !!! theirs the link btw. R.Mayer. subscribe to the channel. He has all the skills that hopefully you will need to know for your skills. WATCH THEM! ... if you have anymore questions feel free to add me.

when I took my CNA test, we had to do hand washing as an actual skills test. After we did that we simply stated "I would wash my hands" also "I would provide privacy", etc. However, I clarified this with my tester during the general question/answer part at the beginning when they sat me down with my partner. So, best practice (IMO) is to ask the tester what they prefer :)

My test was like everyone above, you wash your hands for the actual skill part and after that just state that you would wash your hands. I was very nervous too, because I didn't like performing in front of someone. Just remember, patient safety and privacy, and of course hand washing. When in doubt, say provide privacy or wash hands. They can't fail you for putting in those kinds of steps. But, they can if you fail to mention it. Good luck and relax! :-)

Thank you guys for all your responses. I had a very busy week and all your input just helped put me at ease a little. I am about to get into my book and read some chapters so that I don't fall behind. Between this course, my Teas prep, work, and raising a family it can get hectic but it's nice to read my nerves aren't the only ones over acting :nailbiting:

Just calm down! lol. you seem smart, you will do fine. and you really can't wash your hands too much.

I just took my exam in July. I had to wash my hands very beginning, saying and showing I was doing it. After I would say "at this point I will wash my hands", but did not have to actually do so. They just want to see you do know when to wash your hands.
