Cna ready to set forth in to Nursing School

Hello

I have been a Cna for about a year love the job, my co workers supervsior patients all adore my work ethic. But i am ready to take that step to become an RN. My job adores people that push forth into future parts of the nursing field but i have a problem. I have a 3 year old a home fiance and 2 cars. Before i decided to get into nursing i was a preschool teacher but my heart to help the sick kept calling so i figured i start slow and work up the nursing ladder. I am scared im gonna lose time with my child my home my future husband and the car that im paying on i need major advice on what i should do. If i stop working it will cut into our income deep. We are not rich but we are making it day to day. Im still pretty young. I feel like its my calling to be a nurse i dont wanna wait forever either Helppppp

Some facilities will help with education if you in turn continue to work there (they get a return on their investment). Perhaps there's an opportunity within your facility?

I was in the same exact position ( I am applying to nursing school this year ) and what I did was I decided to do an associate degree program which required a lot of pre-requisites. And I took 2 classes a semester and just went slow and I also took classes over the summer to catch up. It would take longer this way depending on the program (adn/bsn) but you will be able to work fulltime and spend time with your family. But as far as the actual nursing program I plan on working 2-4 shifts a week... And while I was taking my pre-reqs I saved money because I knew I would be working less hours when the actual program started. I would keep your job as a CNA many graduates have a hard time finding jobs after graduation and your job might have a RN position lined up for you plus tuition reimbursement. I hope this helps you can do it. I'm only 22 & have a 2 year old and I did somewhat miss out on a lot but it was for a good cause and it was only temporary. You can do it!!

I'm in that position but kind of the opposite. I am finishing up my first year of nursing school (ADN) and since I'm paying tuition out of pocket I had to get a job! So I got my CNA a month ago and started working in LTC just six days ago. I plan on working every other weekend and two 3-11 shifts during the week. That is definitely ALL I will be able to manage because school is so draining. And can I just say, after five grueling days of orientation on the floor, CNA's need to be paid more! I can't believe how hard it is!
