Hi all,

I have just passed the CNA exam, yet to get my certificate. I am currently doing my BS in Biochemistry, and I have about 2 semesters left. I have always wanted to be a medical doctor, however I found out that there is a very slim chance that i could get into med school here at US since I am an intl student. ( unless I have a super high MCAT scores, high GPA, or unless In IVY league schools or top tier school) so I am thinking of doing an accelearted nursing degree upon completion of my BS.

I got certified to work as a CNA last week, havent worked as CNA yet, am excited and looking forward for it! I am not sure what kind of facilities is better to work for CNA rookie like myself? Since I will be working while taking about 17-18 credits/semester, is there any recommended facilities ( home care, assisted living hospitals) in terms of pay, work load e.t.c.

I was wondering if there is any school, red cross or any other facilities that provides CNA training or CNA test out in NYC? My sister is thinking of a career change,unfortunately she hasnt been able to find CNA test out, or CNA classes at NYC. Any schools, any info on this matter is helpful.

i don't know about NYC, but try calling nursing homes and see if they have training classes. they will usually pay for the cert. test, too. personally, i prefer working in a hospital environment, but everyone is different. i know of one nurse that worked home health as a cna and she said she loved it and she actually had time to study when she was at someones house that just needed to have someone there kinda thing.

Assisted Living is great for students. I've found that if you work night shift you get very few calls and scheduled tasks. You have a lot of time to pull out the text books and read.

yes i would like to know how i get recertified in iowa, do i really have to take all the classes over again?

hello tig,

start with the BON for iowa. try to find out from their website. you can also find out who does the certification in iowa and see if you need to retake the class. in my case, i did. i hadn't worked as a cna for 2 years so i had to retake the class. if i had then i would just have to pay the fee. how long has it been since you were certified? good luck to you.
