I am super nervous about taking the skills part of the exam. I read that now you have to perform three skill in 1/2 hour down from 5 skills in two hours. What should I expect and what advice or encouragement can you give me?

I took the state test weeks ago and passed. I was so scared the night before I could barely sleep lol. Say the steps out loud while you go through them. Also make sure for each step to introduce yourself to the patient. Most of the skills steps start out the same with -handwashing, making sure you provide privacy, putting the bed in comfortable level and making sure its locked, making sure wheelchair is locked. I had anxiety and drank some chamomile tea for relaxation. It helped a lot before the test. good luck.

My skills evaluation and final written exam are going to be this Saturday, Nov. 13. I'm excited and nervous.........

If my application approve then how to prepare my self for CNA exam. How to pass CNA skill exam? Can I do only CNA skill training, does the college provides this opportunity ?

I am worry for skill test... I am international nurse. please help me. I know my English is poor. :(

When I took my state exam in CA it was 5 skills in 25 minutes, and I finished with lots of extra time. It goes by a lot faster than you would think.

hi guys, please share or guide us on what you have been through during your CNA exam. You can save us from panic attack..=(.

Anybody went to Northern CA Nursing Academy in Daly City for the exam?

What should be done first:

hand wash, gathering supplies, explain procedure ,privacy (to save time) or

hand wash, explain procedure, privacy, hand wash, gather supplies ( more sterile) ?

Should we just strictly follow the booklet they sent us California NURSE ASSiStANT handbook for the skills, no more no less?

Appreciate your rply.

You usually show hand washing as a skill first. After that whenever it is required you just say I was my hands.

I am not familiar with the booklet you mentioned, but you should follow the steps as closely as possible. If anything is printed in bold type take note of those because those could be either safety or infection control issues that if you miss those steps some places consider those an automatic fail.

Just as important sometimes as the steps to the skill is talking and communication with the patient whether its an actual person or a mannequin. You interpersonal skills are judged as well. Is it awkward to talk to a mannequin...sure but do it as if they were a living breathing person it will help you. Also pick a name that you would call them. For instance i picked Mrs. Jones from watching YouTube..For Your CNA... she is awesome at showing what interpersonal skills looks like. Also a great place to see the flow of how each skill looks like.

One of the biggest things I tell people is if you make a mistake don't get so frustrated that you dont keep your focus. I personally messed up my first skill so bad that the tester had to stop me because I forgot a major step. Matter of fact I thought right there I surely failed. But I pressed on and did not let in crumble me till I was done. I dont think I made a single mistake after that but my mistake was so major I thought she still was going to fail me and with some testers I might have failed. But to my surprise she passed me. I even went up to her afterwards a d thanked her so much for passing me. She said oh of course you can make a mistake or two and still pass. You worked hard and knew your stuff. So lesson there is even after mistakes keep the confidance level up because they know who knows this stuff and who might be just trying to sneak through on a wing and a prayer.

Practice the skills on family and friends as much as possible. Have a doll or something if they can not help you.
