Cell Phones

What are your facilities rules on cell phones?

After a silly girl took pictures of a resident and posted on facebook, cell phones are not allowed on the facility at all by the employees. It used to be only on the ground floor, we could use them. The residents can have cell phones and one in particular uses it at 5 in the morning to report on us. He'll call his family and say, "Oh, they're moving my room mate. I don't know what their doing. Somethings fishy! Call the the nurse manager now!"

I WISH they would ban them here.

Mine stays off and at home.

Our cell phone policy came into effect this year when we had too many people using cell phones on the job. Below is our facilities policy regarding cell phones:

Policy:

- All personal cellular telephones shall remain off while employees are on duty.

- Employees shall not utilize personal cellular telephones while in work areas or on duty.

- Cellular telephones may be utilized during breaks while in the break rooms or outside of the facility.

- Personal cellular telephones are to be left in your car, purse, desk, locker, mail box or other secure areas during working hours.

- Only facility authorized cellular phones will be permitted to be used during work hours in the facility.

- Any exceptions to this policy must have prior approved of the CEO.

Maybe it's my age (40) but I have HUGE etiquette issues with cell phone usage and texting. Our instructor for CNA clinicals told us to use our cell phones to CALL HER from the PATIENTS ROOM and report each skill we were observing/doing AS WE WERE doing it! IN FRONT OF THE PT!!!!! When we told her we felt uncomfortable with that, she just said, "fine then text me while you're in the room!" OMG! I refused!

I understand that there are reasons to have your phone - safety issues/ theft prevention. But it just is so abused by our society - grocery store clerks texting while scanning your food, taking cell phone calls when you are having dinner with someone, our clinical instructor taking calls from her OTHER job while working with us, texting while driving.... ugh! Where is Miss Manners to give this country a lecture?

I don't need "work rules" to tell me that it is inappropriate to use my cell phone at work!! Of course, McD's has to print warning labels on their coffee because one idiot didn't think before sipping!!

Sorry - I'll get off my soapbox now!

I have walked away from checkout stands because clerks were too dang busy chatting on their cell and did not have the decency to even greet me

I'll take my pesos elsewhere, thanks. :smokin:

I've never seen anyone talk on the cell during patient care. The most I've seen is someone texting in their pocket in the hall really quick or in an empty room. Of course, I don't see cell phones now except for the one time I saw someone accidently brought one in. I know a good portion of the girls probably have theirs on silent in their purse.

When they first instituted the ban, they did searches on your person for cells. One nurse heard a cell vibrate in a purse. The charge nurse called every person in the unit to see if it'd go off again to "catch" the person.

Our facility technically has a no cell phones in the building policy. But, if someone were to check, over 90% have cell phones on their person, including me. I personally would never take or make a call unless it was an emergency in a resident room on the halls farthest from the nurses station, though I would try the call light first. I do take a minute here or there between residents to send or read texts from my hubby. Mainly because we have limited contact due to me working first shift and he working second shift, there are times when we go almost a week without seeing eachother.

Lol when I was 16 I worked at Safeway & I'd be on my phone texting--only when I was on day shift & it was no customers..when I got a customer however I'd greet them & NOT TEXT WHILE I WAS SCANNING THEIR FOOD:D:yeah:

I don't really care if a cashier texts. But I get aggravated at certain coworkers who are always hiding in bathrooms texting.
