Question for CRNA's and SRNA's

Specialties CRNA

Hello,

This post is out of concern because I've been reading other posts from current nursing students and alot of it is about how hard nursing school is and how their grateful for C's on tests and so on. My question for you all (yall if from TX)is did you have problems keeping good grades while in nursing School? I start in Aug.(BSN) and know it will be a challenge but to think I'll be happy with C's is ridiculous.

No disrespect, but it's obvious that to be a CRNA you have to do well in school so are these students just "those kinds of students"that barely get by in the first place? Once again, no disrespect to anyone but lets face it there are A and B students and then there are those who are happy with just getting by.

When I got my ADN and BSN a "C" was enough to pass. In graduate school a "C" was failing. Remember, nursing school does not make you a nurse. You still have to pass Boards and practice safely. You can do both better if you know more. Most nurses want to succeed so will give nursing school their best effort.

I am not a SRNA yet, however, I am a little insulted by your post. I am one of those people who happens to be human and get a C however overall was an excellent student. My freshman year of college when I was a mere 18 years old and still didnt really know what I wanted to do, I just happened to gasp get a C..... this wasn't because I was "happy with just getting by". Nor was I ever happy to just get by. I think that the majority of the people posting on there were far from happy for getting a C... that is why they are trying to make up for it. It is quite obvious that you misunderstood the posting and what people were asking... no one thinks they can get into CRNA school with a C average.... DUHHHH That is a NO BRAINER.....

Since you have classified me as someone that just was happy to get by, for the record I have a competitive GPA (A minus range), am in STTI (a nursing honor society), and was 3rd in my nursing class.

To ccu rn,

well if you are offended so be it. I don't think you understand the quote or question. It was only addressing NURSING COURSES.. Not your first year in college. I didn't mean if you makle a C you are happywith it, but the posts I have read on OTHER sites concerning nursing students THEY are happy getting C's because other NURSING students concurred with her. So you really shouldn't be offended because I feel you misinterpreted the question. HEck I"ve made a C too ya know, but I was wanting to know about nursing courses, because the question was about finding out if CRNA OR SRNA or any one going in that path had a problem with nusing school not their first year in college!!!!

If you would like to know why I asked the question - go to the student nurse forum titled "they really don't understand" and you can see for yourself why I would ask just how hard nursing school is because by their experience, it seems extremely difficult

IMHO academically, nursing school was a stroll thru the park. No challenges except for being in the right place at the right time and stuff like that. But really, didactics were a piece of cake, actually, most of undergrad work was. Now Grad school.......

i agree 100% with this statement. People tend to exaggerate how diffucult their educational experiences are/were. Nursing school was quite simple. Anesthesia school, however, is a totally different story.

good luck

in my opinion, nursing school is tougher than the pre-req's were, but it is not impossible to get an a in actual nursing school course work. there are a lot of different factors to consider- factors that are not necessarilly within one's control. homelife, family status, job status, etc- those are all things to take into consideration. but then there are those who can rise above any and all of these and still fly through nursing school. me personally? my wife went through an adn program and got by with b's and c's with the occassional a. does that mean she did not care? no. she will admit she has no desire to go back to get her bsn at this time, and definitely no plans to go onto a graduate program. me on the other hand, i have a desire to go further (weighing options i.e. crna or np). but after 1 year down and 1 to go i know that this last year i need to get my rear in gear and start producing those a's to make myself look better. does this make sense? i guess my point is, there are some who are happy to get a c (c=rn right?) and then there are those who get pretty hacked when they get a b- that's just my observation.

THANK YOU soooo much for ANSWERINg the question. I asked the CRNA forum because I admire those who are in or wanting to be in the profession and KNOW the mindframe their in. I just wanted to get THEIR opinion on their basic nursing experience and for the last two posts thank you very much. BElieve me I completely understand CRNA school is another world..

thanx for those NOT offended

bigwavedave, I do understand what your saying. One day, like yourself I would like to become a CRNA, and because of this reason I asked how hard nursing school was, just to kinda help prepare myself for the future. Like you stated, some poeple don't want to go back to school and graduating is their final round with school, on the other hand people that are wanting to go all the way have to be concerned with grades throughout the whole process. Anyways, I guess I just wanted to hear someone say it wasn't that bad.

BTW, in my nursing school (as well as grad school) Cs ment failure. IOW, no C in any nursing or anesthesia class!
