Welcome

I got waitlisted @ GBC RPN. I was emailed saying that I should move on or take PSW instead as I am unlikely to get an offer.

Which province are you from?

Hi Toaster

May I ask what your pre req average grades were?

All of them U courses

Chemistry-84%

Biology-88%

English-81

Calulus-85

adv functions-85

Overall average:88%

I got into York-Seneca RN program. Waiting on Ryerson.

I can't believe you got wait listed and told you should do the PSW course when you had an overall average of 88%! Makes me nervous about applying...

Yup, the admission officer also said that there are over 180 applicants that are ahead of me on waitlist so I am assuming their mark is probably in 89+ range. However, I do have post-secondary marks so I am not sure if that really mattered because the general admission officer said they mostly look at high school marks and I thought my GPA was competitive enough. I really wanted to get into that program LOL it's like 15-20 minutes bus ride.

"To be competitive for this program, we recommend that all prerequisites are completed with a high 80's average or higher. We review all academic information on file and use the credits that will meet the prerequisites and best reflect the applicant's achievements."

I do think college admission system is a bit rushed, it's first come first serve basically. In university applications they wait for all the marks and stuff and actually take time to review the applicant's application.

Don't be nervous haha, GBC's RPN program is really popular so it's understanding, plus it's at waterfront. I am sure you'll get in one of the colleges you have applied.

What does "waitlisted" mean anyway? Does it mean you have to wait until the next term to be accepted? GBC sounds like a popular college. I am going to retake the chemistry and try to get 80%. At least I am not in a hurry, I don't plan to start the PN program until September 2016 so I have lots of time. :)

Wait list means that you are qualified for admissions but there are too many applicants and too little space. Should someone decline their offer, there will be a space available for waitlist applicants but admissions will accept the waitlist applicants based on the highest average(I hope I explained right lol) so really, it's not guaranteed you will get in. And no, if you do not get accepted by end of august or first week of September(But it depends on the institution) your application will be canceled and you will have to apply again for next year.

Ohhh, I thought you already applied for September 2015! Yes, you do have a lot of time. Just out of curiosity, why did you take college pre-req rather than high school ones? High school courses are a lot easier!

Okay, thanks for letting me know! I am taking college prep courses because I have been out of school for years and never got a high school diploma, which is why I got my GED. So when I came to the college to do my pre requites, they advised me to take ACE (Academic Career Entrance) courses which they said is equivalent to Grade 12 advanced. So that's like high school courses, isn't it?
