BCIT August 2012

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hello everyone,I wanted to start this forum because I'm getting nervouse about my application to the BSN program at Bcit. I appled for this August (2012) and I am still awaiting a reply. Has anyone else applied? I would love to hear about your application so I have something to compare myself against and could know ways to improve. Please let me know:)Cheers!

I was accepted to the Jan 2012 intake and was able to defer my acceptance to Aug 2012, so I'm guessing that if you are accepted, you'd likely be able to defer too?As for who to contact, I usually just email the nursing@bcit email to ask any questions. They are pretty quick with responding.

Hi, I have a question regarding tuition fees. I'm wondering if our status on mybcit.ca has to change from pending acceptance to full acceptance before we're able to pay our tuition fees? Will an amount automatically appear in our Fee Assessment and Payment section of our mybcit account Or do we simply enter & pay our tuition amount anytime?

When I paid my commitment fee($200), I simply entered the amount in mybcit.ca's payment section. Not sure if we will be told the exact amount of our tuition...

Thanks!

you now owe 3037.something...My status didn't change to accepted until over a month into the program :) It might not show up on your account. You can always call...

Thanks smiley65 :) I emailed bcit nursing's department, but didn't hear from them yet. I'll check with Student Info Services early next week to find out what to do=).

Hi smiley65, of all these 6 courses (ENG 1177, HMGT 7180, PYSC 1101 & 1102, LIBS 7001 & 7002), which ones would you recommend taking it online? in-class? Thanks.

Hi memegumi It really depends on you, your experience with online courses and your academic strengths. I find online courses to be much more time consuming because all of the discussion takes place online over an amount of time. I took both my psych classes online through cap u, 7001 and 7002 online and I am currently in 7180 online. For me 7002 was the hardest because it's all about ethics and it covered alot of technical stuff. I would have appreciated a face to face class for that one....but it really depends on you.

Hey! I took PSYC 1101 online and PSYC 1102 in class.

They were both different ways of learning.

The online class was more based on the notes and had more assignments (35% of grade) that were more time consuming. The tests were also harder (harder in the sense the questions were more focused/detailed). This was probably due to the fact that the professor told us exactly where to study, but there was still a great deal of info.

The in-class one was more boring and more of a textbook course. The upside was the tests were easier and there were 2 very small assignments (1 page double spaced essays) for 10% of our grade.

Thanks smiley65 and dmak26 for your inputs. :)

Hello,

I understand that there is a reference form that is supposed to be completed by each referee. Does anyone know if a reference letter is required AS WELL as the completed reference form (that you get when you're shortlisted)? Or is just the completed reference form acceptable?

Thanks!

I think it's just the form, and if they want to add more they are welcome to write on the back. My referees only wrote a sentence each so I guess it's not mandatory.

Hi for those who have been through the application processes before i have a few questions.

I am currently waitlisted, and i am thinking as its not the holdlist i have a pretty slim chance of getting in this august, which i am ok with and plan to reapply for january. But i know i am not able to reapply now as i have a application open. Is the earliest period i can apply july 15th? thats the last day that the application is open but from the info i got from BCIT it seems like the last day they say our applications will open?

As well from people who where waitlisted then applied again, did you go through the whole application again?

ANd last question, I am looking at ways to improve my application for january, and the only things for me to do is to potential complete some of the nursing electives. (I just completed my BSc. and have a few transfer credits eng, and both psycs) Will BCIT accept them if i begin them in September or do any course need to be completed this summer before the application is due.

Thanks, any insite would help.

Pippa20: I know that for the Jan intake prereqs need to have been completed by sometime in August to be considered.
