Take the California NCLEX in PA?

U.S.A. California

Published

I currently live in PA, but I am planning on moving to California after graduation. I want to take the NCLEX asap after graduation, so I will still be in PA. Is it possible to take the California NCLEX in PA? Or do I have to take the PA NCLEX and then get reciprocity for California?

Thanks for the advice!

The NCLEX is the same in all states. CA does not have "their" own version of the NCLEX. You can test anywhere you want, including PA. :)

Everyone takes the same NCLEX regardless of what state you are in. What you need to do is apply for a California license

Thanks for the responses! So I understand that it's the same test...so when I take the NCLEX in PA, can I somehow specify that I want to get my California license when I pass, and not the PA license?

Sorry, I am just confused! Thanks again!

You apply for licensure in the state in which you want to work. After your school forwards that state board of nursing their approval you receive and authorization to test. THEN you set up your test through PearsonVue at whatever location you want. The NCLEX is national and is only taken once (provided you pass).
