U.S.A. California

Published

Hi all,

Newbie here. I graduated last month and have been applying like crazy and can't seem to land a job. :oAny suggestions? I'm beginning to think my IP is worthless. I plan on taking my boards sometime next month. Any tips on studying for the NCLEX?:specs:

Thanks all!

IP. Interim Permit is being issued to first time Nclex test takers to be able to work as a nurse for 6 months. There are certain hospitals that accepts employment for nurses with IP ofcourse it has limitations. Within 6 months it expires, it becomes null and void once you take your nclex. it doesnt apply on 2,3,4th etc etc time test takers.

I'm surprised that your school did not have at least one session where your instructors talked about such things as getting employment and the time line for applying for new jobs, etc. We had a class on professional issues at the end and lots of things that affected us as newbies was discussed. Sounds like your school kind of left you out in the cold.

What's IP? Does that have anything to do with being an international nurse?

Kris

It means Interim Permit and you need to meet all requirements for licensure other than writing the NCLEX exam and have a certain time limit to get that done in.

CA will only issue an Interim Permit to a foreign nurse if they have already taken and passed the CGFNS exam, as well as meet the language requirements of the BRN. This is the only time that they specifically require the English exams. Otherwise, the English exams are not needed for CA, but for immigration purposes only.

Look up a few posts... to my last. Also, if you're interested in psych nursing, there are two private, for profit, hospitals in the area that are ALWAYS looking for nurses (you can guess why, though).

Most, if not all, of the local hospitals have web sites that have their job postings, necessary qualifications, etc. Check them daily.

Best wishes and good luck!

I graduated May 29 2008 and passed NCLEX july 22 I have been looking for a job and have had no luck. ADN program (computer shut off at 75!) Mosr of the new grad programs don't start until November or December. I work in home care and they have nothing to offer me- they won't even give me any raise since I got my RN but they are paying another RN on the same case RN salary just not me -- why? because I can make no promises to stay once I get the opportunity to work as an RN---I almost quit this job but I need to work> I have been loyal to the company !!!. There is such a large number of new nurses jobs seem harder to get (unless of course you know somebody so it seems). I am getting discouraged !!!!

Im in the same boat. If someone had only told me that you need to apply before you graduate if you have any hopes of landing a job. I graduated in May, passed the NCLEX in June, started to look for a job in July and still I have had no luck at all. Even though I have my RN license and have applied to at least 50 jobs, I still have had only one call back for an interview (this Thursday, at a dermatologist office wish me luck). All the other replies have been emails stating that Im not qualified. Does anyone have any suggestions???

I did Kaplan, a bit of ATI and Hurst (online).

I live in Calif and most of the new grad programs started early July, I too waited unitl I passed my boards. I am and LVN but my experience is limmited to Home Healthcare and even they won't give my a job as an RN because I have no RN experience. I know alot of new grad programs will start taking applications again in November or December . I never ever thought it would be this hard finding a job. Kaiser her in the bay aea only took 12 new grads and they had over 450 applicants. they initially were supposed to take 24 new applicants. ( have put in atleast 20 applications with little response. Good luck on your interview. If you have any connection with for floor managers at anh of the hospitals I have heard that helps, maybe contact nursing recruiters, apply on line I don't know what else to do but keep looking. I grauated May 29th and passed the boards in July ( I have been looking for about 3 weeks)

the same thing is happening to me in phx. az. i just graduated and no one has called me back. taking by boards today. my sister is a nurse and her manager told me that he couldn't hire me because the hospital will only hire apollo college new grads first and then if spots are open, they'll hire new grads from other colleges. what a slap in the face. there a too many schools for nursing here, and the hospitals won't fill the open positions with new grad rn's. but yet it's on the news that there's a shortage of nurses here. thought about moving to another state, but it seems that in ca, az and co it's all the same. no one from vegas called me either. my wife is in allied health care and the hospitals hired her right away. there is no new grad discrimination towards non-nursing professions. good luck to you all. things will get better for us.

I'm not a nurse, have never had a nursing job, but I want to be a nurse. I'm applying to Samuel Merritt and Sacramento State accelerated BSN programs. I'm getting worried about taking out loans and not being able to find a job. I'm from the SF bay area and would prefer to stay here, as my life is here, but I'd be willing to live in, say, Modesto for a year or two.

What are the job prospects like for new N.P with no experience in nursing, only the masters degree? Perhaps if the job market is still bleak in a year I could continue on to my master's.
