Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

My cohort was 22 months, but I think they changed the program to be a month or 2 longer with cohorts starting this year.

I did my prereqs at National, in fact I have a previous BS from NU. No, it doesn't help your chances. Admission is based on a point system. I've seen that first hand with some friends who thought that since they gave money to NU for their prereqs they would get in. Not so. The cutoff points for admission into my cohort was in the mid 80's. If you need info on the point system, search this thread, there is a wealth of info.

My cohort had 150 applicants, but that was over 2 years ago. I don't know what the numbers are now. They can tell you that in the pre-nursing forum. NU is not easier than any other school to get into, they just don't maintain a waiting list and you have multiple attempts throughout the year to try.

I think I'm going to move wherever I can get a new grad position. San Diego has about 1500 applicants per position (according to my current instructor who is part of the nursing consortium). I can sacrifice 2 years for some experience. I already did 2 years for nursing school. LOL!

I got in the first time. My gpa in the prereq's was 4.0, my teas was 86.

Before entering the field of nursing, make sure you really understand what you are really getting into...starting out as a CNA is an excellent opportunity to get your feet wet. Also, understand that the field is highly highly competitive with the So. Cal market saturated with new grads looking for positions. Too many schools with too many new grads. I don't see the market getting any better over the next couple of years either. Just understand what you are up against and do some research before spending so much money on a private school RN program. Also, National U. does not offer preceptorships (at least they didn't in 2010 when I attended) as other schools in the area do. This makes finding a position even more difficult without this experience on your resume.

Hi everyone! I just graduated from high school & I'm going to be attending National University in September to start my pre-requisites for nursing. I can honestly say I'm quite anxious to start school here as it's not a traditional university from what I've heard. The majority of students who attend NU are either in the military or are shooting for a second degree meaning I'm probably going to be the youngest in my classes. I'm hoping to apply to the nursing program sometime next year. If anyone could fill me in with their nursing journey through NU & any tips for my pre-requisites, that'd be greatly appreciated! :)
