Names of hospitals applying to work in Bay Area for fresh grad BSN, RN holders?

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi,

New here and was wondering if anyone knew any of the names of hospitals or nurse care facilities that are allowing fresh grad BSN and NCLEX passers to work in their hospitals. Mostly in the area of East Bay, such as Oakland down to Milpitas, San Jose and to Sunnyvale. I'm originally from Hawaii and not from this area. Any named facility would be fine, I just want to start working and practice.

hi and welcome to allnurses and the bay area.

unfortunately i think you missed most of the new grad programs that are starting soon. i think there will be some in the summer as the new grad programs are usually 2 a year or so. finding work in the bay is difficult right now even for non new grads (i should know). get your resume together and get out there. also check career builder, monster, and craigslist. apply, apply, apply and follow up with the recruiters. good luck and stay positive.

hey im a new grad from hawaii too..just moved here a couple of weeks ago..anyways..i believe the next new grad programs begin in the summer (i.e. regional medical center-san jose, good samaritan hospital- san jose, and the va at palo alto). some hospitals you may want to check up on are el camino hospital, o'connor hospital, valley medical center, john muir, washington, st. rose...(yea theres a lot compared to hawaii :wink2:) well good luck in your search...

I just called John Muir. I hope to graduate next year. I have volunteered there for 5 yeas and asked about the hiring climate.. They said for March they had a new grad program and for 10 spots had hundreds of applications.... This is really making me want to go to a school that has guaranteed jobs where you work for tuition.. I agree though keep at it.. Hopefully things will turn around.

Congratulations on passing the NCLEX....You said you're a BSN & NCLEX passer, the question remains "do you have a license to practice"? Your wording (fresh grad BSN & NCLEX passer) makes me wonder if you're a foreign grad....If so, you should visit the International Board and read up on the requirements....If you already have your license to practice....I would just call around the places and ask if they're hiring....Better yet, just apply....There are plenty of hospitals and nursing homes where they hire RN's but finding a new grad position here in the Bay Area is going to be very hard especially when there are plenty of grads unable to find a job...If you're not stuck on the hospital setting, then try the nursing homes....ususally they're all hiring....but in this economy, they might have a freeze as the above mentioned hospitals....Either way good luck and hope you find a job soon...

Next new grad orientations are not going to be starting before the summer that you can apply for. Please be aware that there are many nursing programs in the Bay Area so the market is already oversaturated as it is and they have 200-300 applications for the less than 20 positions that they will have open then.

And add into it the state of the economy, and it is not looking good for this area. We are actually recommending that one does not move to the area until they actually have a job offer. 6 months up here and without work can be quite expensive.

And for the original poster, since you mention NCLEX passer, do you actually have a visa that will permit you to work in the US? Suspect that you do not hold a SSN# and that is why you mention NCLEX passer and that alone.

We have not seen one hospital willing to petition here in the past two years or so, since the retrogression started. The area is also strongly unionized so the H1-B visa is out of the question. There is not one hospital that can hire a nurse in the area under a temporary work visa.

As mentioned above, please check out the International Forum if this is the case for you. And best of luck to all of you.

Specific to working in the Bay Area, so will move to the CA forum where it is more appropriate.

Person has American flag and lists "originally from Hawaii". Seems pretty American to me.

My family is originally from Cuba and we wave the American flag....If someone were to ask my mom where she's from, she will say "originally from Florida" but transplanted in California....still she's Cuban though...

Go read up on the international board and you will understand what we're talking about....

Hi Bizzy-b, I moved here from Hawaii less that a year ago (i was there for 7 years). Right now a lot of hospitals are starting "new grad" programs. In fact it's almost better to be a new grad than an experienced RN!!! Local hospitals have cancelled a lot of spring training programs for experienced RN's so if you bust a move, you might get into one of the March programs. You could try Santa Clara Kaiser, Stanford, El Camino, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Good Samaritan, Sequoia, Redwood City Kaiser, Kaiser Oakland...and that's all I can think of right now since I myself am rather new to the area. The best thing to do is to call and speak with a nurse recruiter and ask if they're accepting new grads. It seems as though all the jobs are dried up around here so good luck and be persistent!

Thanks to our colleagues who've replied, to the other question, yes i have my license, I appreciate the posts, as I've seen and asked for the past week, I hear the trend now is to work in Skilled Nursing Facilities "Nursing Homes" as to working in a major hospital since there are no fresh grad programs available. So I guess my new question would be what are the names of those Nursing Homes?
