Any one here graduates of the program? Or are in the program?

Are classes during the day?

Diamndsgrl,

I went to their info session last week.

Yes, after the first semester you can work as a student nurse worker or you can apply to the state to get your CNA and work as a CNA. They don't prohibit you from working, however they strongly encourage you to work as few hours as possible due to the workload. Also, you'll want your mindset to be that you're a student that also works part time, not an employee that goes to school part time.

The schedule they gave us was class on Monday and Thursday from 7am - ? (different times depending on your classes, but most are done by noon). Tuesday and Wednesday are clinic days - often 7am - noon or later, depending on which semester. The first 9 weeks of 1st semester are supposed to be really tough, as you have more lecture classes and you're adjusting to the schedule/study needs, etc. Keep in mind that for every hour you are in class, you need to allocated 2-3 hours of study time.

Anyone heard back for fall semester? I'm applying for January start date, so I'm curious to see how far behind they are in sending admission letters. I want to make sure that I have at least 2 weeks from letter to 1st day of class so that I can give proper notice at my current job.

Good luck everyone!!

i just got home from mexico and i got the mail Im in!!!! County here I come!!!

Congrats!!!! :yeah: Hope to see you there in January - I'll be in the "new" class (I hope!). How many "points" did you have? I'm trying to figure out where I'll be after Micro & passing the entrance exam... I think I'll be ok, but who knows.

Congratulations Melissabelle!! When did the letter come? I called and they said letters were still being sent out.

Congratulations Melissa! I am hoping I share the same enthusiasm...

Thanks! hope to see you all there!

I just spoke to the advisor today, and she said the minimum cut off for Fall 2009 entry is 76. My points weren't high enough. But, I was accepted at El Camino College starting in August so I am not terribly upset. At least I am starting my RN degree. Goodluck to everyone.

The updated applications for Spring semester posted today. They start accepting tomorrow and deadline is Sept 1st to have everything turned in. Good luck!

what are the pre-req's for county?

pre-reqs are: resident of Los Angeles county for one year immediately prior to admission; 4 hour entrance exam--you must receive 13th grade level to be eligible; & the point system for pre-reqs--anatomy, physiology, micro (all 4 unit classes w/ labs & all completed w/in 5 years), 3 units english comp, 3 units life span psych, & must have minimum gpa of 2.0--however, good luck getting in w/ that low of a grade. I graduate in December(thank god) & our cut-off on the points was 81 out of 93--they received over 700 applications for 70 spots last semester. Also the standard expectations of good health, background check & basic life support issued by American Heart Association. The deadline is September 1st to start in January & they are sticklers for having things on time in the office--my advice, send everything registered mail, including your previous school's transcripts--they do not accept walk-in applications. Good luck!

What immunizations are required for NS at County? I'm applying for January (99% of my stuff is turned in with the last item arriving by end of next week) and want to make sure I have everything before they ask. (Positive thinking!!) This way, I can handle any missing items or have titers drawn without having to scramble in December/January. Or, if there's already a post elsewhere, can you point me to it?

Oh, and reading for the first semester? I'd like to get some reading in while I have a slow semester...
